First Reading: Isaiah 52: 7-10

7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, and that preacheth peace: of him that sheweth forth good, that preacheth salvation, that saith to Sion: Thy God shall reign!

8 The voice of thy watchmen: they have lifted up their voice, they shall praise together: for they shall see eye to eye when the Lord shall convert Sion.

9 Rejoice, and give praise together, O ye deserts of Jerusalem: for the Lord hath comforted his people: he hath redeemed Jerusalem.

10 The Lord hath prepared his holy arm in the sight of all the Gentiles: and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.

Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 98: 1, 2-3, 3-4, 5-6 (3c)

1 A psalm for David himself. Sing ye to the Lord anew canticle: because he hath done wonderful things. His right hand hath wrought for him salvation, and his arm is holy.

2 The Lord hath made known his salvation: he hath revealed his justice in the sight of the Gentiles.

3 He hath remembered his mercy his truth toward the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

Second Reading: Hebrews 1:1-6

1 God, who, at sundry times and in divers manners, spoke in times past to the fathers by the prophets, last of all,

2 In these days hath spoken to us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the world.

3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the figure of his substance, and upholding all things by the word of his power, making purgation of sins, sitteth on the right hand of the majesty on high.

4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath inherited a more excellent name than they.

5 For to which of the angels hath he said at any time, Thou art my Son, today have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?

6 And again, when he bringeth in the first begotten into the world, he saith: And let all the angels of God adore him.

Gospel: John 1: 1-18

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 The same was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made by him: and without him was made nothing that was made.

4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men.

5 And the light shineth in darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

ख्रीस्त जयन्ती

📒 पहला पाठ: इसायाह का ग्रन्थ 52:7-10

7) जो शान्ति घोषित करता है, सुसमाचार सुनाता है, कल्याण का सन्देश लाता और सियोन से कहता है, “तेरा ईश्वर राज्य करता है“- इस प्रकार शुभ सन्देश सुनाने वाले के चरण पर्वतों पर कितने रमणीय हैं!

8) येरुसालेम! तेरे पहरेदार एक साथ ऊँचे स्वर से आनन्द के गीत गाते हैं। वे अपनी आँखों से देख रहे हैं कि प्रभु ईश्वर सियोन की ओर वापस आ रहा है।

9) येरुसालेम के खँड़हर आनन्दविभोर हो कर जयकार करें! प्रभु-ईश्वर अपनी प्रजा को सान्त्वना देता और येरुसालेम का उद्धार करता है।

10) प्रभु-ईश्वर ने समस्त राष्ट्रों के देखते-देखते अपना पावन सामर्थ्य प्रदर्शित किया है। पृथ्वी के कोने-कोने में हमारे ईश्वर का मुक्ति-विधान प्रकट हुआ है।

📕 दूसरा पाठ : इब्रानियों के नाम पत्र 1:1-6

1) प्राचीन काल में ईश्वर बारम्बार और विविध रूपों में हमारे पुरखों से नबियों द्वारा बोला था।

2) अब अन्त में वह हम से पुत्र द्वारा बोला है। उसने उस पुत्र के द्वारा समस्त विश्व की सृष्टि की और उसी को सब कुछ का उत्तराधिकारी नियुक्त किया है।

3) वह पुत्र अपने पिता की महिमा का प्रतिबिम्ब और उसके तत्व का प्रतिरूप है। वह पुत्र अपने शक्तिशाली शब्द द्वारा समस्त सृष्टि को बनाये रखता है। उसने हमारे पापों का प्रायश्चित किया और अब वह सर्वशक्तिमान् ईश्वर के दाहिने विराजमान है।

4) उसका स्थान स्वर्गदूतों से ऊँचा है; क्योंकि जो नाम उसे उत्तराधिकार में मिला है, वह उनके नाम से कहीं अधिक श्रेष्ठ है।

5) क्या ईश्वर ने कभी किसी स्वर्गदूत से यह कहा- तुम मेरे पुत्र हो, आज मैंने तुम्हें उत्पन्न किया है और मैं उसके लिए पिता बन जाऊँगा और वह मेरा पुत्र होगा?

6) फिर वह अपने पहलौठे को संसार के सामने प्रस्तुत करते हुए कहता है- ईश्वर के सभी स्वर्गदूत उसकी आराधना करें,

📙 सुसमाचार : सन्त योहन 1:1-18

1) आदि में शब्द था, शब्द ईश्वर के साथ था और शब्द ईश्वर था।

2) वह आदि में ईश्वर के साथ था।

3) उसके द्वारा सब कुछ उत्पन्न हुआ। और उसके बिना कुछ भी उत्पन्न नहीं हुआ।

4) उस में जीवन था, और वह जीवन मनुष्यों की ज्योति था।

5) वह ज्योति अन्धकार में चमकती रहती है- अन्धकार ने उसे नहीं बुझाया।

6) ईश्वर को भेजा हुआ योहन नामक मनुष्य प्रकट हुआ।

7) वह साक्षी के रूप में आया, जिससे वह ज्योति के विषय में साक्ष्य दे और सब लोग उसके द्वारा विश्वास करें।

8) वह स्वयं ज्यांति नहीं था; उसे ज्योति के विषय में साक्ष्य देना था।

9) शब्द वह सच्च ज्योति था, जो प्रत्येक मनुष्य का अन्धकार दूर करती है। वह संसार में आ रहा था।

10) वह संसार में था, संसार उसके द्वारा उत्पन्न हुआ; किन्तु संसार ने उसे नहीं पहचाना।

11) वह अपने यहाँ आया और उसके अपने लोगों ने उसे नहीं अपनाया।

12) जितनों ने उसे अपनाया, और जो उसके नाम में विश्वास करते हैं, उन सब को उसने ईश्वर की सन्तति बनने का अधिकार दिया।

13) वे न तो रक्त से, न शरीर की वासना से, और न मनुष्य की इच्छा से, बल्कि ईश्वर से उत्पन्न हुए हैं।

14) शब्द ने शरीर धारण कर हमारे बीच निवास किया। हमने उसकी महिमा देखी। वह पिता के एकलौते की महिमा-जैसी है- अनुग्रह और सत्य से परिपूर्ण।

15) योहन ने पुकार-पुकार कर उनके विषय में यह साक्ष्य दिया, ‘‘यह वहीं हैं, जिनके विषय में मैंने कहा- जो मेरे बाद आने वाले हैं, वह मुझ से बढ़ कर हैं; क्योंकि वह मुझ से पहले विद्यमान थे।’’

16) उनकी परिपूर्णता से हम सब को अनुग्रह पर अनुग्रह मिला है।

17) संहिता तो मूसा द्वारा दी गयी है, किन्तु अनुग्रह और सत्य ईसा मसीह द्वारा मिला है।

18) किसी ने कभी ईश्वर को नहीं देखा; पिता की गोद में रहने वाले एकलौते, ईश्वर, ने उसे प्रकट किया है।

मनन-चिंतन

क्रिसमस - शब्द के देहधारण का उत्सव है। संत योहन के सुसमाचार की प्रस्तावना (योहन 1: 1-18) में इस रहस्य को समृद्ध ईशशास्त्र में प्रस्तुत किया गया है। नाज़रेत का येसु मानव रूप में ईश्वर है। सर्वशक्तिमान ईश्वर, दुनिया का सृष्टिकर्ता एक ऐसा व्यक्ति बन जाता है जो हमें मानवीय तरीके से ईश्वरीय प्यार का अनुभव कराने में सक्षम है। वे हमारी ही तरह बनते हैं। संत पौलुस हमें ईसा मसीह के समान मानसिकता रखने के लिए कहते हुए उनका परिचय इस प्रकार देते हैं - "वह वास्तव में ईश्वर थे और उन को पूरा अधिकार था कि वह ईश्वर की बराबरी करें, फिर भी उन्होंने दास का रूप धारण कर तथा मनुष्यों के समान बन कर अपने को दीन-हीन बना लिया और उन्होंने मनुष्य का रूप धारण करने के बाद मरण तक, हाँ क्रूस पर मरण तक, आज्ञाकारी बन कर अपने को और भी दीन बना लिया।” (फिलिप्पियों 2: 6-8) स्वर्ग ईश्वर का सिंहासन है और पृथ्वी उनका पावदान है (देखें इसायाह 66:1)। फिर भी वे बेथलेहेम के गोशाले में जन्म लेते हैं। संत पौलुस हमें मसीह की इस आत्म-त्याग करने वाली विनम्रता का अनुकरण करने को कहते हैं। प्रभु ईश्वर हमें "ईश्वर की सन्तति बनने का अधिकार" देने के लिए मानव बन गये (योहन 1:12)। वे नीचे आते हैं ताकि हमें ऊपर उठाया जा सकें। प्रभु के आगमन का त्यौहार हमें अनके स्वयं को शून्य करने वाले तथा उदार प्रेम के लिए ईश्वर की स्तुति करने तथा हमारी अपनी परिस्थितियों में उसी प्रकार का प्रेम प्रदर्शित करने के लिए आमंत्रित करता है।

REFLECTION

Christmas is the celebration of the Word made flesh. In the Johannine prologue (Jn 1:1-18) this mystery is presented in rich theology. Jesus of Nazareth is God in human form. The Almighty God, the creator of the world becomes one like us in order to enable us to experience his love in a human way. He becomes one like us. St. Paul tells us that we should have the same mindset as that of Christ Jesus, “Who, being in very nature of God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself…” (Phil 2:6-8). God has heaven as his throne and earth as footstool. Yet he comes down to us in the babe of Bethlehem. St. Paul asks us to imitate this self-emptying humility of Christ. He became a human child, in order to give us “power to become children of God” (Jn 1:12). He comes down so that we can be raised up. The feast of the Nativity of the Lord calls us to praise God for his self-emptying and generous love and live the same kind of self-emptying love in our own situations of human life.

मनन-चिंतन-2

एक गाने की पंक्ति मुझे याद आ रही है जो इस प्रकार है - ईश्वर इंसान बन गया और एक नया इतिहास बन गया। हॉ, इसलिए तो सारी दुनिया इस पर्व को धूम धाम से मनाती है। क्रिसमस सारी मानवजाति के लिए महत्वपूर्ण क्यों है? बाकी त्योहारों की अपेक्षा इस त्योहार में क्या ख़ास बात है?

सरी दुनिया एक मुक्ति दाता की प्रतीक्षा कर रही थी क्योंकि नबियों एवं धर्मात्माओं ने एक मुक्तिदाता के बारे में भविष्यवाणी की थी कि एक कुँवारी गर्भवती होगी। वह एक पुत्र को प्रसव करेगी और वह उसका नाम इम्मानूएल रखेगी (इसायाह 7:14) क्योंकि वे अपने लोगों को उनके पापों से मुक्त करेगा। (मत्ती 1:21) वह दाऊद के सिंहासन पर विराजमान हो कर सदा के लिए शाँति, न्याय और धार्मिकता का साम्राज्य स्थापित करेगा। विश्वमण्डल के प्रभु का अनन्य प्रेम यह कार्य सम्पन्न करेगा। (इसायाह 9:6) वह मुक्ंितदाता प्रभु येसु ही है। येसु ने स्वयं कहा कि धन्य है तुम्हारी आँखें, क्योंकि वे देखती हैं और धन्य हैं तुम्हारे कान, क्योंकि वे सुनते हैं! मैं तुम लोगों से यह कहता हॅू - तुम जो बातें देख रहे हो, उन्हें कितने ही नबी और धर्मात्मा देखना चाहते थे; परन्तु उन्होंने उन्हें नहीं देखा और तुम जो बातें सुन रहे हो, वे उन्हें सुनना चाहते थे, परन्तु उन्होंने उन्हें नहीं सुना। (मत्ती 13:16-17) और क्रिस्मस में हम उन्हीं प्रभु येसु मसीह का जन्मदिन मनाते हैं।

येसु का जन्म हमारे लिए महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि उनके जन्मोत्सव में हम हमारी मुक्ति का भी जन्मोत्सव मनाते हैं। हॉ, येसु के जन्म के साथ ही हमारी मुक्ति का भी आरंभ हुआ। येसु ने कहा कि “मैं संसार को दोषी ठहराने नहीं, संसार का उद्वार करने आया हॅू।“ (योहन 12:47) मानवपुत्र भी अपनी सेवा कराने नहीं, बल्कि सेवा करने तथा बहुतों के उद्वार के लिए अपने प्राण देने आया है।(मत्ती 20:28) क्योंकि पिता ईश्वर ने अपने एकलौते पुत्र को मुक्तिकार्य के लिए ही भेजा था। इसलिए संत योहन कहते है कि “ईश्वर ने संसार को इतना प्यार किया कि उसने उसके लिए अपने एकलौते पुत्र को अर्पित कर दिया, जिससे जो उस में विश्वास करता है, उसका सर्वनाश न हो, बल्कि अनन्त जीवन प्राप्त करे। (योहन 3:16) पिता ईश्वर चाहता है कि सभी मनुष्य मुक्ति प्राप्त करें और सत्य को जानें। (1 तिमथी 2:4) इसलिए येसु ने कहा कि “...मैं धर्मियों को नहीं, पापियों को बुलाने आया हॅू।(मत्ती 9:13)

प्रभु येसु मसीह ने इस जगत में हम सबों को ईश्वर की संतान बनाने के लिए जन्म लिया। क्योंकि पिता परमेश्वर ने प्रेम से प्रेरित होकर आदि में ही निर्धारित किया कि हम ईसा मसीह द्वारा उसके दत्तकपुत्र-पुत्रियाँ बनेंगे। (एफेसियों 1:5) पुराने विधान में हम कई स्थानों पर ईश-वचन को पढते है जहॉ ईश्वर और मानव के बीच के संबन्ध की ईश्वर और प्रजा के रुप में तुलना की गयी है - यदि तुम मेरी बात पर ध्यान दोगे, तो मैं तुम्हारा ईश्वर होऊॅगा और तुम मेरी प्रजा होगे। (यिरमियाह 7:23, 30:22, निर्गमन 6:7, लेवी 26:12) संत योहन कहते है कि “पिता ने हमें कितना प्यार किया है! हम ईश्वर की सन्तान कहलाते हैं और हम वास्तव में वही हैं।“(1योहन 3:1); क्योंकि जितनों ने उसे अपनाया, और जो उसके नाम में विश्वास करते हैं, उन सबों को उसने ईश्वर की सन्तति बनने का अधिकार दिया। (योहन 1:12) इसलिए संत पौलुस गलातियों से कहते हैं कि आप लोग सब-के-सब ईसा मसीह में विश्वास करने के कारण ईश्वर की सन्तति हैं। (गलातियों 3:26) ईश्वर की सन्तान होने के कारण ईसाईयों से पाप से दूर रहने के लिए संत योहन अपने पत्र में आग्रह करते हुए लिखते हैं - जो ईश्वर की सन्तान है, वह पाप नहीं करता; क्योंकि ईश्वर का जीवन-तत्व उस में क्रियाशील है।(1योहन 3:9)

क्रिसमस सारी मानव-जाति के लिए बहुत अहम है क्योंकि येसु के जन्म द्वारा स्वर्ग और पृथ्वी के बीच का टूटा रिश्ता फिर से बन गया है। पाप करने के कारण ईश्वर ने आदम और हेवा को अदन की वाटिका से निकाल दिया था। (योहन 3:23) इस प्रकार एक ही मनुष्य के अपराध के फलस्वरूप सबों को दण्डाज्ञा मिली... सब पापी ठहराये गये। (रोमियों 5:18-19) हमारे अर्धम ने हम को ईश्वर से दूर किया, हमारे पापों ने ईश्वर को हम से विमुख कर दिया। (इसायाह 59:2) संत पौलुस कहते हैं कि हम सब पापी थे, ईश्वर के शत्रु थे और अब हमारे प्रभु येसु मसीह के द्वारा ईश्वर से हमारा मेल हो गया है। (रोमियों 5:11, 2 कुरिन्थियों 5:18-19) पिता ईश्वर और मनुष्यों के बीच केवल एक ही मध्यस्थ हैं, अर्थात् येसु मसीह। (1तिमथी 2:5) येसु ने यह बात स्वयं कही है कि मार्ग, सत्य और जीवन मैं हॅू। मुझ से हो कर गये बिना कोई पिता के पास नहीं आ सकता। (योहन 14:6) क्योंकि समस्त संसार में येसु नाम के सिवा मनुष्यों को कोई दूसरा नाम नहीं दिया गया है, जिसके द्वारा हमें मुक्ति मिल सकती है। (प्रेरित 4:12)

इस प्रकार प्रभु येसु के जन्म के द्वारा हम लोगों के लिए स्वर्ग के हर प्रकार के आध्यात्मिक वरदान, (एफेसियों 1:3) परिपूर्ण नवजीवन एवं अक्षय, अदूषित तथा अविनाशी विरासत (1पेत्रुस 1:3-4) प्राप्त करने का मार्ग खुल गया है।

2 He said to Nathan the prophet: Dost thou see that I dwell in a house of cedar, and the ark of God is lodged within skins?

3 And Nathan said to the king: Go, do all that is in thy heart: because the Lord is with thee.

4 But it came to pass that night, that the word of the Lord came to Nathan, saying:

5 Go, and say to my servant David: Thus saith the Lord: Shalt thou build me a house to dwell in?

8 And now thus shalt thou speak to my servant David: Thus saith the Lord of hosts: a I took thee out of the pastures from following the sheep to be ruler over my people Israel:

9 And I have been with thee wheresoever thou hast walked, and have slain all thy enemies from before thy face: and I have made thee a great man, like unto the name of the great ones that are on the earth.

10 And I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and I will plant them, and they shall dwell therein, and shall be disturbed no more: neither shall the children of iniquity afflict them any more as they did before,

11 From the day that I appointed judges over my people Israel: and I will give thee rest from all thy enemies. And the Lord foretelleth to thee, that the Lord will make thee a house.

12 And when thy days shall be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.

72 To perform mercy to our fathers, and to remember his holy testament,

73 The oath, which he swore to Abraham our father, that he would grant to us,

74 That being delivered from the hand of our enemies, we may serve him without fear,

76 And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways:

77 To give knowledge of salvation to his people, unto the remission of their sins:

78 Through the bowels of the mercy of our God, in which the Orient from on high hath visited us:

📒 पहला पाठ : समुएल का दुसरा ग्रन्थ 7:1-5 8b-12.14a16

1) जब दाऊद अपने महल में रहने लगा और प्रभु ने उसे उसके चारों ओर के सब शत्रुओं से छुड़ा दिया,

2) तो राजा ने नबीनातान से कहा, ‘‘देखिए, मैं तो देवदार के महल में रहता हूँ, किन्तु ईश्वर की मंजूषा तम्बू में रखी रहती है।’’

3) नातान ने राजा को यह उत्तर दिया, ‘‘आप जो करना चाहते हैं, कीजिए। प्रभु आपका साथ देगा।’’

4) उसी रात प्रभु की वाणी नातान को यह कहते हुए सुनाई पड़ी,

5) ‘‘मेरे सेवक दाऊद के पास जाकर कहो - प्रभु यह कहता है: क्या तुम मेरे लिए मन्दिर बनवाना चाहते हो?

8) तुम भेड़ें चराया करते थे और मैंने तुम्हें चरागाह से बुला कर अपनी प्रजा इस्राएल का शासक बनाया।

9) मैंने तुम्हारे सब कार्यों में तुम्हारा साथ दिया और तुम्हारे सामने तुम्हारे सब शत्रुओं का सर्वनाश कर दिया है। मैं तुम्हें संसार के सब से महान् पुरुषों-जैसी ख्याति प्रदान करूँगा।

10) मैं अपनी प्रजा इस्राएल के लिए भूमि का प्रबन्ध करूँगा और उसे बसाऊँगा। वह वहाँ सुरक्षित रहेगी। कुकर्मी उस पर अत्याचार नहीं कर पायेंगे। ऐसा पहले हुआ करता था,

11) जब मैंने अपनी प्रजा इस्राएल का शासन करने के लिए न्यायकर्ताओं को नियुक्त किया था। मैं उसे उसके सब शत्रुओं से छुड़ाऊँगा। प्रभु तुम्हारा वंश सुरक्षित रखेगा।

12) जब तुम्हारे दिन पूरे हो जायेंगे और तुम अपने पूर्वजों के साथ विश्राम करोगे, तो मैं तुम्हारे पुत्र को तुम्हारा उत्तराधिकारी बनाऊँगा और उसका राज्य बनाये रखूँगा।

14) मैं उसका पिता होऊँगा, और वह मेरा पुत्र होगा।

15) किन्तु मैं उस पर से अपनी कृपा नहीं हटाऊँगा, जैसा कि मैंने साऊल के साथ किया, जिसे मैंने तुम्हारे लिए ठुकराया।

16) इस तरह तुम्हारा वंश और तुम्हारा राज्य मेरे सामने बना रहेगा और उसका सिंहासन अनन्त काल तक सुदृढ़ रहेगा।’’

📙 सुसमाचार : सन्त लूकस का सुसमाचार 1:67-79

67) उसका पिता पवित्र आत्मा से परिपूर्ण हो गया और उसने यह कहते हुए भविष्यवाणी कीः

68) धन्य है प्रभु, इस्राएल का ईश्वर! उसने अपनी प्रजा की सुध ली है और उसका उद्धार किया है।

69) उसने अपने दास दाऊद के वंश में हमारे लिए एक शक्तिशाली मुक्तिदाता उत्पन्न किया है।

70) वह अपने पवित्र नबियों के मुख से प्राचीन काल से यह कहता आया है

71) कि वह शत्रुओं और सब बैरियों के हाथ से हमें छुड़ायेगा

72) और अपने पवित्र विधान को स्मरण कर हमारे पूर्वजों पर दया करेगा।

73) उसने शपथ खा कर हमारे पिता इब्राहीम से कहा था

74) कि वह हम को शत्रुओं के हाथ से मुक्त करेगा,

75) जिससे हम निर्भयता, पवित्रता और धार्मिकता से जीवन भर उसके सम्मुख उसकी सेवा कर सकें।

76) बालक! तू सर्वोच्च ईश्वर का नबी कहलायेगा, क्योंकि प्रभु का मार्ग तैयार करने

77) और उसकी प्रजा को उस मुक्ति का ज्ञान कराने के लिए, जो पापों की क्षमा द्वारा उसे मिलने वाली है, तू प्रभु का अग्रदूत बनेगा।

78) हमारे ईश्वर की प्रेमपूर्ण दया से हमें स्वर्ग से प्रकाश प्राप्त हुआ है,

79) जिससे वह अन्धकार और मृत्यु की छाया में बैठने वालों को ज्योति प्रदान करे और हमारे चरणों को शान्ति-पथ पर अग्रसर करे।’’

मनन-चिंतन

आज के सुसमाचार में हम ज़करियस का गीत सुनते है जिसे लातीनी भाषा में "बेनेडिक्तुस" कहा जाता है। सन्त योहन बपतिस्ता के जन्म के अवसर पर प्रभु ईश्वर की स्तुति करते हुए उनके पिता ज़करियस ने यह गीत गाया था। इस्राएली जनता की अविश्वस्तता के बावजूत भी जो दृढ़ प्रेम और वफ़ादारी ईश्वर ने उनके प्रति प्रकट की उसी की प्रशंसा इस गीत के माध्यम से ज़करियस करता है। प्रभु ईश्वर की सभी प्रतिज्ञाएं विश्वासयोग्य हैं। 2 तिमथी 2:13 में संत पौलुस कहते हैं, "यदि हम मुकर जाते हैं, तो भी वह सत्य प्रतिज्ञ बने रहेंगे; क्योंकि वह अपने स्वभाव के विरुद्ध नहीं जा सकते"। इब्रानियों 10:23 कहता है, “हम अपने भरोसे का साक्ष्य देने में अटल एवं दृढ़ बने रहें, क्योंकि जिसने हमें वचन दिया है, वह सत्यप्रतिज्ञ है”। इस स्तुति-गीत में मनाया जाने वाला दूसरा पहलू प्रभु येसु मसीह में ईश्वर की मुक्तिकार्य है। प्रभु येसु दुनिया के उद्धारकर्ता हैं और उनकी मुक्ति की ताकत प्रभु के शरीरधारण में प्रकट होती है। योहन बपतिस्ता इस महान मुक्ति-योजना का हिस्सा है जिसका अनुभव उनका पिता ज़करियस भी करता है। इस प्रकार ज़करियस का स्तुति-गीत हमें ईश्वर की सत्यप्रतिज्ञता तथा उनके मुक्तिकार्य को याद करने के लिए आमंत्रित करता है।

REFLECTION

In today’s Gospel we have the “Benedictus”, the Canticle of Zachariah, the father of John the Baptist in praise of God. Zachariah praised God for his steadfast love and faithfulness to Israel although Israel was often unfaithful. God was faithful in all his promises. In 2Tim 2:13 St. Paul says, “if we are faithless, he remains faithful - for he cannot deny himself”. Heb 10:23 says, “Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who has promised is faithful”. The second aspect that is celebrated in this canticle is the saving activity of God in Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Saviour of the world and his saving power is manifested in the event of incarnation. John the Baptist is part of the enactment of this great saving event which is also witnessed by his father, Zachariah. Thus the canticle of Zachariah invites us to celebrate the faithfulness of God and his saving activity in history.

मनन-चिंतन-2

संत लूकस के सुसमाचार के पहले दो अध्यायों में तीन स्तुतिगीत हैं। पहले अध्याय में मरियम का भजन (Magnificat) और ज़करियस का भजन (Benedictus) हैं और दूसरे अध्याय में सिमयोन का भजन (Nunc dimittis) हैं। ये तीनों गीत क्रिसमस की खुशी को व्यक्त करते हैं। मरिया-गान उस सर्वशक्तिमान ईश्वर की स्तुति है जो अपने पुत्र के देहधारण के माध्यम से इस दुनिया में अपना सबसे बड़ा आश्चर्य का कार्य करते हैं। ज़करियस का भजन मुख्य रूप से मसीह के आगमन और संत योहन बपतिस्ता, अग्रदूत की भूमिका के बारे में भविष्यवाणी का गीत है। लंबे समय की प्रतीक्षा के बाद मसीह के आगमन के व्यक्तिगत अनुभव का आनंद सिमयोन का भजन व्यक्त करता है। क्रिसमस की अवधि में प्रत्येक ख्रीस्तीय विश्वासी को इन गीतों को सार्थक रीति से गाने के लिए सक्षम बनना चाहिए। इसके लिए क्रिसमस के अनुभव को निजीकरण की आवश्यकता होगी। ज़करियस नौ महीनों से अधिक समय से मौन साध रहे थे। वे नौ महीनों से बात ही नहीं कर पा रहे थे। लूकस 1:64 में, सुसमाचार-लेखक ने नोट किया, "उसी क्षण ज़करियस के मुख और जीभ के बन्धन खुल गये और वह ईश्वर की स्तुति करते हुए बोलने लगा।"। जब ज़करियस को बोलने की क्षमता प्राप्त हुयी तब उनकी सब से पहली प्रतिक्रिया सर्वशक्तिमान की प्रशंसा की थी। अपनी चुप्पी में वे ईश्वर के देहधारण के रहस्य और उस कहानी में खुद की भूमिका पर मनन-ध्यान कर रहे थे, जो उनके सामने धीरे-धीरे प्रकट हो रहे थे। वे उस आंतरिक आनंद को अपने दिल के अन्दर समाहित करने में सक्षम नहीं थे जो सर्वशक्तिमान की प्रशंसा में फूट निकला था। अब मेरे अपने व्यक्तिगत मनन-चिंतन के लिए कई सवाल उठते हैं। क्या मैं प्रभु की प्रतीक्षा कर रहा हूँ? क्या मेरा इंतज़ार सिमयोन के इंतजार की तरह तीव्र है? क्या मैंने अपने उद्धारक के आने के अनुभव को निजीकृत करने की कोशिश की है? क्रिसमस की पूर्व संध्या पर इन सवालों को संबोधित करना मेरे लिए अच्छा है, ताकि क्रिसमस का जश्न मेरे लिए एक व्यक्तिगत अनुभव हो। वास्तव में, कलीसिया प्रतिदिन की प्रभात-प्रार्थना में ज़करियस के भजन को शामिल कर उसे हर रोज सार्थक रूप से गाने के लिए हमें आमंत्रित करती है।

REFLECTION-2

There are three canticles in the first two chapters of the Gospel of St. Luke. They are the Canticle of Mary (Magnificat) and, Canticle of Zachariah (Benedictus) in chapter one, and the Canticle of Simeon (Nunc dimittis) in chapter two. All these three songs express the joy of Christmas. The canticle of Mary is praise of God who carries out his greatest wonder through the Incarnation of the Son of God. The Canticle of Zachariah is primarily a song of prophecy about immediate arrival of the Messiah and the role of St. John the Baptist, the precursor. The Canticle of Simeon expresses the joy of the personal experience of the arrival of the Messiah after a long period of waiting. In the season of Christmas every Christian should be able to sing these songs with great meaning. This would require personalisation of the experience of Christmas. Zachariah was silent for over nine months. He was not able to talk for nine months. In Lk 1:64, the evangelist notes, “his mouth was opened and his tongue freed, and he began to speak, praising God”. When Zachariah regained the power of speech, the first movements of his tongue were praises of the Almighty. In his silence he was contemplating the mystery of the Incarnation and his own role in that story that unravelled petal by petal before him. He was not able to contain the inner joy that broke out in praises of the Almighty. Many questions arise for my own personal reflections. Have I been waiting for the Lord? Has my waiting been intense like that of Zachariah? Have I tried to personalise the experience of the coming of my redeemer? It is good for me to address these questions on the eve of Christmas, so that the celebration of Christmas will be a personal experience for me. In fact, the Church invites us to meaningfully sing the Benedictus every day by making it part of the morning prayer of every day in the Divine Office.

2 And who shall be able to think of the day of his coming? and who shall stand to see him? for he is like a refining fire, and like the fuller’s herb:

3 And he shall sit refining and cleansing the silver, and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and shall refine them as gold, and as silver, and they shall offer sacrifices to the Lord in justice.

4 And the sacrifice of Juda and of Jerusalem shall please the Lord, as in the days of old, and in the ancient years.

23 Behold I will send you Elias the prophet, before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.

59 And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they called him by his father’s name Zachary.

60 And his mother answering, said: Not so; but he shall be called John.

61 And they said to her: There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name.

62 And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called.

63 And demanding a writing table, he wrote, saying: John is his name. And they all wondered.

64 And immediately his mouth was opened, and his tongue loosed, and he spoke, blessing God.

65 And fear came upon all their neighbours; and all these things were noised abroad over all the hill country of Judea.

66 And all they that had heard them laid them up in their heart, saying: What an one, think ye, shall this child be? For the hand of the Lord was with him.

वर्ष का चौंतीसवाँ सामान्य सप्ताह, बुधवार

📒 पहला पाठ: मलआकी का ग्रन्थ 3:1-4.23-24

1) प्रभु-ईश्वर यह कहता है, “देखो, मैं अपने दूत भेजूँगा, जिससे वह मेरे लिए मार्ग तैयार करे। वह प्रभु, जिसे तुम खोजते हो, अचानक अपने मन्दिर आ जायेगा। देखो, विधान का वह दूत, जिस के लिए तुम तरसते हो, आ रहा है।

2) कौन उसके आगमन के दिन का सामना कर सकेगा? जब वह प्रकट होगा, तो कौन टिकेगा? क्योंकि वह सुनार की आग और धोबी के खार के सदृश है।

3) वह चाँदी गलाने वाले और शोधन करने वाले की तरह बैठ कर लेवी के पुत्रों को शुद्ध करेगा और सोने-चाँदी की तरह उनका परिष्कार करेगा।

4) तब वे योग्य रीति से ईश्वर को भेंट चढ़ायेंगे और प्रभु-ईश्वर प्राचीन काल की तरह यूदा और यरूसलेम की भेंट स्वीकार करेगा।

23) “देखो, उस महान् एवं भयानक दिन के पहले, प्रभु के दिन के पहले, मैं नबी एलियाह को तुम्हारे पास भेजूँगा।

24) वह पिता का हृदय पुत्र की ओर अभिमुख करेगा और पुत्र का हृदय पिता की ओर। कहीं ऐसा न हो कि मैं आ कर देश का सर्वनाश कर दूँ।“

📙 सुसमाचार : सन्त लूकस 1:57-66

57) एलीज़बेथ के प्रसव का समय पूरा हो गया और उसने एक पुत्र को जन्म दिया।

58) उसके पड़ोसियों और सम्बन्धियों ने सुना कि प्रभु ने उस पर इतनी बड़ी दया की है और उन्होंने उसके साथ आनन्द मनाया।

59) आठवें दिन वे बच्चे का ख़तना करने आये। वे उसका नाम उसके पिता के नाम पर ज़करियस रखना चाहते थे,

60) परन्तु उसकी माँ ने कहा, ’’जी नहीं, इसका नाम योहन रखा जायेगा।’’

61) उन्होंने उस से कहा, ’’तुम्हारे कुटुम्ब में यह नाम तो किसी का भी नहीं है’’।

62) तब उन्होंने उसके पिता से इशारे से पूछा कि वह उसका नाम क्या रखना चाहता है।

63) उसने पाटी मँगा कर लिखा, ’’इसका नाम योहन है’’। सब अचम्भे में पड़ गये।

64) उसी क्षण ज़करियस के मुख और जीभ के बन्धन खुल गये और वह ईश्वर की स्तुति करते हुए बोलने लगा।

65) सभी पड़ोसी विस्मित हो गये और यहूदिया के पहाड़ी प्रदेश में ये सब बातें चारों ओर फैल गयीं।

66) सभी सुनने वालों ने उन पर मन-ही-मन विचार कर कहा, ’’पता नहीं, यह बालक क्या होगा?’’ वास्तव में बालक पर प्रभु का अनुग्रह बना रहा।

आम तौर पर माता-पिता ही अपने बच्चे का नाम रखते हैं क्योंकि उनका उस बच्चे पर जिसे वे इस दुनिया में लाते हैं अधिकार होता है। फिर भी हम बाइबिल में देखते हैं कि कुछ बच्चों के संबंध में प्रभु ईश्वर स्वयं उस विशेषाधिकार को अपने लिए सुरक्षित रखते हैं। प्रभु येसु का नाम उन्हें स्वयं ईश्वर ने दिया था। जब ज़करियस मंदिर में धूप अर्पित कर रहा था, तब स्वर्गदूत गब्रिएल ने उसे ईश्वर की कृपा से एक सन्तान प्राप्त होने का सन्देश सुनाया। उस समय ज़करियस को यह भी बताया गया कि उसे अपने बच्चे को ’योहन’ नाम देना चाहिए। इस प्रकार प्रभु ईश्वर ने ही सन्त योहन बपतिस्ता का नाम निर्धारित किया था। प्रभु ईश्वर ने ज़करियस तथा उसके बाद की पीढियों के सामने यह प्रकट किया कि वह बच्चा ईश्वर के प्रत्यक्ष संरक्षण और मार्गदर्शन के अधीन था। ईश्वर ने संत योहन बपतिस्ता को अपने कार्यों के लिए दूसरे मनुष्यों से अलग किया था। लूकस 1:80 में सन्त लूकस कहते हैं, “वह इस्राएल के सामने प्रकट होने के दिन तक निर्जन प्रदेश में रहा”। यह स्पष्ट रूप से दर्शाता है कि प्रभु ईश्वर के कार्य के लिए उन्हें परिवार से कैसे बुलाया गया और अलग किया गया था।

REFLECTION

It is normally the parents who name their child because they have an authority over the child whom they bring into this world. Yet we see in the Bible that with regard to certain children God reserves that privilege to himself. The name of Jesus was given to him by God himself. The name ‘John’ was pronounced by God’s angel before Zachariah, his father when he offered incense in the temple. Thus the Lord revealed to Zachariah and to generations after him that John the Baptist was under the direct protection and guidance of God. John was set apart for God. In Lk 1:80, the evangelist notes, “he was in the wilderness until the day he appeared publicly to Israel”. This shows clearly how he was called out from the family for God’s work. We who belong to God need to submit ourselves God’s authority and God’s plans.
