First Reading: Genesis 6: 5-8; 7: 1-5, 10

5 And God seeing that the wickedness of men was great on the earth, and that all the thought of their heart was bent upon evil at all times,

6 It repented him that he had made man on the earth. And being touched inwardly with sorrow of heart,

7 He said: I will destroy man, whom I have created, from the face of the earth, from man even to beasts, from the creeping thing even to the fowls of the air, for it repenteth me that I have made them.

8 But Noe found grace before the Lord.

7:1 And the Lord said to him: Go in thou and all thy house into the ark: for thee I have seen just before me in this generation.

2 Of all clean beasts take seven and seven, the male and the female.

3 But of the beasts that are unclean two and two, the male and the female. Of the fowls also of the air seven and seven, the male and the female: that seed may be saved upon the face of the whole earth.

4 For yet a while, and after seven days, I will rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and I will destroy every substance that I have made, from the face of the earth.

5 And Noe did all things which the Lord had commanded him.

10 And after the seven days were passed, the waters of the flood overflowed the earth.

Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 29: 1a and 2, 3ac-4, 3b and 9c-10

1 A psalm for David, at the finishing of the tabernacle. Bring to the Lord, O ye children of God: bring to the Lord the offspring of rams.

2 Bring to the Lord glory and honour: bring to the Lord glory to his name: adore ye the Lord in his holy court.

3 The voice of the Lord is upon the waters; the God of majesty hath thundered, The Lord is upon many waters.

4 The voice of the Lord is in power; the voice of the Lord in magnificence.

9 The voice of the Lord prepareth the stags: and he will discover the thick woods: and in his temple all shall speak his glory.

10 The Lord maketh the flood to dwell: and the Lord shall sit king for ever.

Gospel: Mark 8: 14-21

14 And they forgot to take bread; and they had but one loaf with them in the ship.

15 And he charged them, saying: Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.

16 And they reasoned among themselves, saying: Because we have no bread.

17 Which Jesus knowing, saith to them: Why do you reason, because you have no bread? do you not yet know nor understand? have you still your heart blinded?

18 Having eyes, see you not? and having ears, hear you not? neither do you remember.

19 When I broke the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took you up? They say to him, Twelve.

20 When also the seven loaves among four thousand, how many baskets of fragments took you up? And they say to him, Seven.

21 And he said to them: How do you not yet understand?

पहला पाठ : उत्पत्ति ग्रन्थ 6:5-8;7:1-5.10

5) प्रभु ने देखा कि पृथ्वी पर मनुष्यों की दुष्टता बहुत बढ़ गयी है और उनके मन में निरन्तर बुरे विचार और बुरी प्रवृत्तियाँ उत्पन्न होती हैं,

6) तो प्रभु को इस बात का खेद हुआ कि उसने पृथ्वी पर मनुष्य को बनाया था। इसलिए वह बहुत दुःखी था।

7) प्रभु ने कहा, ''मैं उस मानवजाति को, जिसकी मैंने सृष्टि की है, पृथ्वी पर से मिटा दूँगा - और मनुष्यों के साथ-साथ पशुओं, रेंगने वाले जीव-जन्तुओं और आकाश के पक्षियों को भी - क्योंकि मुझे खेद है कि मैंने उन को बनाया है''।

8) नूह को ही प्रभु की कृपादृष्टि प्राप्त हुई।

1) प्रभु ने नूह से कहा, ''तुम अपने सारे परिवार के साथ पोत पर चढ़ो, क्योंकि इस पीढ़ी में केवल तुम्हीं मेरी दृष्टि में धार्मिक हो।

2) तुम समस्त शुद्व पशुओं में से नर-मादा के सात-सात जोड़े ले जाओ और समस्त अशुद्ध पशुओं में से दो, नर और उसकी मादा को।

3) आकाश के पक्षियों में से भी नर और मादा के सात-सात जोड़े। इस तरह समस्त पृथ्वी पर उनकी जाति बनाये रखोगे;

4) क्योंकि सात दिन बाद मैं चालीस दिन और चालीस रात पानी बरसाऊँगा और पृथ्वी पर से उन सब प्राणियों को मिटा दूँगा, जिन्हें मैंने बनाया है।''

5) नूह ने वह सब किया, जिसका आदेश प्रभु ने दिया था और सातवें दिन प्रलय का जल पृथ्वी पर बरसने लगा।

10) सातवें दिन प्रलय का जल पृथ्वी पर बरसने लगा।

सुसमाचार : सन्त मारकुस का सुसमाचार 8:14-21

14) शिष्य रोटियाँ लेना भूल गये थे, और नाव में उनके पास एक ही रोटी थी।

15) उस समय ईसा ने उन्हें यह चेतावनी दी, ’’सावधान रहो। फ़रीसियों के ख़मीर और हेरोद के ख़मीर से बचते रहो’’।

16) इस पर वे आपस में कहने लगे, ’’हमारे पास रोटियाँ नहीं है, इसलिए यह ऐसा कहते हैं’’।

17) ईसा ने यह जान कर उन से कहा, ’’तुम लोग यह क्यों सोचते हो कि हमारे पास रोटियाँ नहीं है, इसलिए यह ऐसा कहते है? क्या तुम अब तक नहीं जान सके हो? नही समझ गये हो? क्या तुम्हारी बुद्धि मारी गयी है?

18) क्या आँखें रहते भी तुम देखते नहीं? और कान रहते भी तुम सुनते नहीं? क्या तुम्हें याद नही है-

19) जब मैने उन पाँच हज़ार लोगों के लिए पाँच रोटियाँ तोड़ीं, तो तुमने टूकड़ों के कितने टोकरे भरे थे?’’ शिष्यों ने उत्तर दिया, ’’बारह’’।

20) ’’और जब मैंने चार हज़ार लोगों के लिए सात रोटियाँ तोड़ीं, तो तुमने टुकड़ों के कितने टोकरे भरे थे?’’ उन्होंने उत्तर दिया, ’’सात’’।

21) इस पर ईसा ने उन से कहा, ’’क्या तुम लोग अब भी नहीं समझ सके?’’

📚 मनन-चिंतन

आज के सुसमाचार पाठ में प्रभु येसु अपने शिष्यों से बहुत नाराज़ नज़र आते हैं। प्रभु येसु ने फरीसियों के खमीर और हेरोद के खमीर के बारे में उनसे जो कहा उसे वे समझ नहीं पाए थे। वे यह सोच रहे थे कि येसु ऐसा इसलिए कह रहे थे क्योंकि वे अपने साथ रोटी लाना भूल गए थे। वास्तव में, येसु उन्हें फरीसियों और हेरोद के बुरे इरादों के खिलाफ चेतावनी देने की कोशिश कर रहे थे। येसु अपने शिष्यों को अनुभवहीन अथवा नासमझ कहते हैं । यह संभव है कि येसु कभी-कभी हमसे भी नाराज़ हो सकते हैं । येसु के शिष्यों की तरह हम में भी कभी - कभी समझदारी की कमी होती है। कई बार हम यह सुनने में विफल हो जाते हैं कि यीशु वास्तव में हमसे क्या कह रहे हैं, यह देखने में विफल हो जाते हैं कि यीशु हमें क्या दिखाना चाह रहे हैं।

आइये हम येसु के पास इस मन से आएं कि जो येसु हमें सुनाना या दिखाना चाहते हैं, हम उसे वैसे ही सुन व देख पाएं। । हमें आज हमारी आंखों और हमारे कानों को खोलने की जरूरत है। हमें विनम्रता, और आत्मा की दीनता की आवश्यकता है, जिससे कि हम यह कह सकें कि 'प्रभु मैं देख सकता हूं', 'प्रभु मैं सुन सकता हूँ।' आमेन।

📚 REFLECTION

In the Gospel reading Jesus seems very frustrated with his disciples. They misunderstand what Jesus says to them about the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod, thinking that Jesus is referring to the fact that they have forgotten to bring bread. In reality, Jesus was trying to warn them against the evil intentions of the Pharisees and of Herod. Jesus addresses his disciples as people without perception. It is likely that Jesus can be just as frustrated with us at times. Like the first disciples we too can demonstrate a lack of perception, a failure to hear what Jesus is really saying to us, a failure to see what Jesus is trying to show us.

We need to keep coming before the Lord in the awareness that we do not see as he wants us to see or hear as he wants us to hear. Our eyes and our ears need opening, and, perhaps, the times when we think we see and hear well are the very times when we are most blind and deaf. We need the humility, the poverty of spirit, which keeps us praying, ‘Lord, that I may see’, ‘Lord, that I may hear’.
