First Reading: First John 4: 7-10

7 Dearly beloved, let us love one another, for charity is of God. And every one that loveth, is born of God, and knoweth God.

8 He that loveth not, knoweth not God: for God is charity.

9 By this hath the charity of God appeared towards us, because God hath sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we may live by him.

10 In this is charity: not as though we had loved God, but because he hath first loved us, and sent his Son to be a propitiation for our sins.

Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 72: 1-2, 3-4, 7-8

1 A psalm on Solomon.

2 Give to the king thy judgment, O God: and to the king’s son thy justice: To judge thy people with justice, and thy poor with judgment.

3 Let the mountains receive peace for the people: and the hills justice.

4 He shall judge the poor of the people, and he shall save the children of the poor: and he shall humble the oppressor.

7 In his days shall justice spring up, and abundance of peace, till the moon be taken sway.

8 And he shall rule from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth.

Gospel: Mark 6: 34-44

34 And Jesus going out saw a great multitude: and he had compassion on them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd, and he began to teach them many things.

35 And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came to him, saying: This is a desert place, and the hour is now past:

36 Send them away, that going into the next villages and towns, they may buy themselves meat to eat.

37 And he answering said to them: Give you them to eat. And they said to him: Let us go and buy bread for two hundred pence, and we will give them to eat.

38 And he saith to them: How many loaves have you? go and see. And when they knew, they say: Five, and two fishes.

39 And he commanded them that they should make them all sit down by companies upon the green grass.

40 And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds and by fifties.

41 And when he had taken the five loaves, and the two fishes: looking up to heaven, he blessed, and broke the loaves, and gave to his disciples to set before them: and the two fishes he divided among them all.

42 And they all did eat, and had their fill.

43 And they took up the leavings, twelve full baskets of fragments, and of the fishes.

44 And they that did eat, were five thousand men.

पहला पाठ : 1 योहन 4:7-10

7) प्रिय भाइयो! हम एक दूसरे को प्यार करें, क्योंकि प्रेम ईश्वर से उत्पन्न होता है।

8) जौ प्यार करता है, वह ईश्वर की सन्तान है और ईश्वर को जानता है। जो प्यार नहीं करता, वह ईश्वर को नहीं जानता; क्येोंकि ईश्वर प्रेम है।

9) ईश्वर हम को प्यार करता है। यह इस से प्रकट हुआ है कि ईश्वर ने अपने एकलौते पुत्र को संसार में भेजा, जिससे हम उसके द्वारा जीवन प्राप्त करें।

10) ईश्वर के प्रेम की पहचान इस में है कि पहले हमने ईश्वर को नहीं, बल्कि ईश्वर ने हम को प्यार किया और हमारे पापों के प्रायश्चित के लिए अपने पुत्र को भेजा।

सुसमाचार : मारकुस 6:34-44

34) ईसा ने नाव से उतर कर एक विशाल जनसमूह देखा। उन्हें उन लोगों पर तरस आया, क्योंकि वे बिना चरवाहे की भेड़ों की तरह थे और वह उन्हें बहुत-सी बातों की शिक्षा देने लगे।

35) जब दिन ढलने लगा, तो उनके शिष्यों ने उनके पास आ कर कहा, "यह स्थान निर्जन है और दिन ढल चुका है।

36) लोगों को विदा कीजिए, जिससे वे आसपास की बस्तियों और गाँवों में जा कर खाने के लिए कुछ खरीद लें।"

37) ईसा ने उन्हें उत्तर दिया, "तुम लोग ही उन्हें खाना दे दो"। शिष्यों ने कहा, "क्या हम जा कर दो सौ दीनार की रोटियाँ ख़रीद लें और उन्हें लोगों को खिला दें?"

38) ईसा ने पूछा, "तुम्हारे पास कितनी रोटियाँ है? जा कर देखो।" उन्होंने पता लगा कर कहा, "पाँच रोटियाँ और दो मछलियाँ"।

39) इस पर ईसा ने सब को अलग-अलग टोलियों में हरी घास पर बैठाने का आदेश दिया।

40) लोग सौ-सौ और पचास-पचास की टोलियों में बैठ गये।

41) ईसा ने वे पाँच रोटियाँ और दो मछलियाँ ले ली और स्वर्ग की ओर आँखें उठा कर आशिष की प्रार्थना पढ़ी। वे रोटियाँ तोड-तोड कर अपने शिष्यों को देते गये, ताकि वे लोगों को परोसते जायें। उन्होंने उन दो मछलियों को भी सब में बाँट दिया।

42) सबों ने खाया और खा कर तृप्त हो गये।

43) रोटियों और मछलियों के बचे हुए टुकड़ों से बारह टोकरे भर गये।

44) रोटी खाने वाले पुरुषों की संख्या पाँच हज़ार थी।

📚 मनन-चिंतन

आज हम पाँच रोटियों और दो मछलियों से हज़ारों लोगों को भोजन कराने के चमत्कार को देखते हैं। ऐसा क्या था जिसके कारण प्रभु येसु ने यह चमत्कार किया? लोगों के प्रति करुण प्रेम ने उन्हें उनके लिए कुछ करने के लिए प्रेरित और मजबूर किया। जब प्रभु ने देखा कि एक बड़ी भीड़ उनके पीछे-पीछे आ रही है, बड़ी आशा लिए उन्हें खोज रही है, उन्हें उन पर तरस आया, उन्हें वे बिना चरवाहे की भेड़ों के समान लगे। प्रभु येसु अगर चाहते तो दो मछलियों और पाँच रोटियों के बिना भी यह चमत्कार कर सकते थे, लेकिन वे चाहते हैं कि उनके मुक्तिकार्य में हम मनुष्यों का भी कुछ योगदान होना चाहिए।

इन दिनों के पाठों में क़रीब हर दिन हम ईश्वर के प्रेम के नए-नए पहलुओं को देखते हैं। आज की पूजन विधि में अपने आप को एक प्रेमी पिता के रूप में प्रकट करते हैं जो अपने बच्चों के दुःख-दर्द को अनदेखा नहीं कर सकते। हमारे दर्द, हमारी परेशानियाँ और हमारे मन का अंधकार उन्हें हमारे लिए व्यथित कर देता है। अगर हम ईश्वर की संतानें हैं तो हम में भी हमारे स्वर्गीय पिता के गुण होना ज़रूरी है। क्या दूसरों के दुःख-दर्द देखकर मेरा मन भी दुखी होता है और उनके लिए कुछ करने के लिए मुझे मजबूर कर देता है?

📚 REFLECTION

Today we reflect about the miracle of Jesus feeding a large number of people from five loaves and two fish. What made Jesus to perform this miracle? It was his love for the people that moved him to act for them. When he saw crowds seeking him, coming after him with so much expectation, he felt pity for them, he found that they needed someone to lead them to the right path and help them to come God. He could have performed this miracle even without five loaves and two fish, but he wants that in his saving mission there should be some contribution from our side as well.

These days in the daily readings almost everyday we witness new aspects of God’s love towards us. In today’s liturgy he shows that he is our loving father who cannot see the pain and misery of his children. Our sufferings, our pain, our sicknesses and our being in darkness moves him with pity. If we are his children we also need to possess some of the qualities of our heavenly father. Does somebody’s pain or misery or sufferings move me to act, to do something for them?
