Advent Weekday

First Reading: Zephaniah 3:1-2, 9-13

1 Woe to the provoking, and redeemed city, the dove.

2 She hath not hearkened to the voice, neither hath she received discipline: she hath not trusted in the Lord, she drew not near to her God.

9 Because then I will restore to the people a chosen lip, that all may call upon the name of the Lord, and may serve him with one shoulder.

10 From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia, shall my suppliants the children of my dispersed people bring me an offering.

11 In that day thou shalt not be ashamed for all thy doings, wherein thou hast transgressed against me: for then I will take away out of the midst of thee thy proud boasters, and thou shalt no more be lifted up because of my holy mountain.

12 And I will leave in the midst of thee a poor and needy people: and they shall hope in the name of the Lord.

13 The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies, nor shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall feed, and shall lie down, and there shall be none to make them afraid.

Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 34: 2-3, 6-7, 17-18, 19 and 23

2 I will bless the Lord at all times, his praise shall be always in my mouth.

3 In the Lord shall my soul be praised: let the meek hear and rejoice.

6 Come ye to him and be enlightened: and your faces shall not be confounded.

7 This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him: and saved him out of all his troubles.

17 But the countenance of the Lord is against them that do evil things: to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.

18 The just cried, and the Lord heard them: and delivered them out of all their troubles.

19 The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a contrite heart: and he will save the humble of spirit.

23 The Lord will redeem the souls of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall offend.

Gospel: Matthew 21: 28-32

28 But what think you? A certain man had two sons; and coming to the first, he said: Son, go work today in my vineyard.

29 And he answering, said: I will not. But afterwards, being moved with repentance, he went.

30 And coming to the other, he said in like manner. And he answering, said: I go, Sir; and he went not.

31 Which of the two did the father’s will? They say to him: The first. Jesus saith to them: Amen I say to you, that the publicans and the harlots shall go into the kingdom of God before you.

32 For John came to you in the way of justice, and you did not believe him. But the publicans and the harlots believed him: but you, seeing it, did not even afterwards repent, that you might believe him.

आगमन का तीसरा सप्ताह, मंगलवार

📒 पहला पाठ : सफ़न्याह का ग्रन्थ 3:1-2,9-13

1) उस विद्रोही, दूषित और कठोर हृदय नगर को धिक्कार!

2) उसने न तो कभी प्रभु की वाणी पर ध्यान दिया और न कभी उसकी चेतावनी ही स्वीकारी। उसने कभी प्रभु पर भरोसा नहीं रखा। वह कभी उसकी शरण नहीं गया।

9) मैं लोगों के होंठ फिर शुद्ध करूँगा, जिससे वे सब-के-सब प्रभु का नाम लें और एक हृदय हो कर उसकी सेवा करें।

10) इथोपिया की नदियों के उस पार से मेरे बिखरे हुए उपासक चढ़ावा लिये मेरे पास आयेंगे।

11) उस दिन तुम्हें लज्जित नहीं होना पडे़गा- तुम्हारे बीच मेरे विरुद्ध कोई पाप नहीं किया जायेगा, क्योंकि मैं तुम लोगों में से डींग हाँकने वाले अहंकारियों को दूर करूँगा। उसके बाद मेरे पवित्र पर्वत पर कोई भी घमण्ड नहीं करेगा।

12) मैं तुम लोगों के देश में एक विनम्र एवं दीन प्रजा को छोड़ दूँगा। जो इस्राएल में रह जायेंगे, वे प्रभु के नाम की शरण लेंगे।

13) वे अधर्म नहीं करेंगे, झूठ नहीं बोलेंगे और छल-कपट की बातें नही करेंगे। वे खायेंगे-पियेंगे और विश्राम करेंगे और कोई भी उन्हें भयभीत नहीं करेगा।

📙 सुसमाचार : मत्ती 21:28-32

28) "तुम लोगों का क्या विचार है? किसी मनुष्य के दो पुत्र थे। उसने पहले के पास जाकर कहा, ’बेटा जाओ, आज दाखबारी में काम करो’।

29) उसने उत्तर दिया, ’मैं नहीं जाऊँगा’, किन्तु बाद में उसे पश्चात्ताप हुआ और वह गया।

30) पिता ने दूसरे पुत्र के पास जा कर यही कहा। उसने उत्तर दिया, ’जी हाँ पिताजी! किन्तु वह नहीं गया।

31) दोनों में से किसने अपने पिता की इच्छा पूरी की?" उन्होंने ईसा को उत्तर दिया, "पहले ने"। इस पर ईसा ने उन से कहा, "मैं तुम लोगों से यह कहता हूँ - नाकेदार और वैश्याएँ तुम लोगों से पहले ईश्वर के राज्य में प्रवेश करेंगे।

32) योहन तुम्हें धार्मिकिता का मार्ग दिखाने आया और तुम लोगों ने उस पर विश्वास नहीं किया, परन्तु नाकेदारों और वेश्याओं ने उस पर विश्वास किया। यह देख कर तुम्हें बाद में भी पश्चात्ताप नहीं हुआ और तुम लोगों ने उस पर विश्वास नहीं किया।

📚 मनन-चिंतन

आज के सुसमाचार में दो बेटों का दृष्टांत है - एक जो आज्ञाकारिता की घोषणा करता है, लेकिन पिता की आज्ञा का पालन नहीं करता है और दूसरा जो अवज्ञा की घोषणा करता है लेकिन पिता की आज्ञा का पालन करता है। हम इन दोनों पुत्रों की तुलना उडाऊ पुत्र के दृष्टान्त के दो पुत्रों से कर सकते हैं। छोटे पुत्र ने खुद को पिता से शारीरिक रूप से दूर कर लिया लेकिन उसके दिल में पिता के साथ एक बंधन था। दूसरी ओर बड़ा बेटा अपने घर में पिता के साथ रह रहा था, लेकिन उस में पिता के साथ दिल की निकटता नहीं थी। उसने पिता से कुछ पुरस्कार प्राप्त करने की अपेक्षा की। कहना पर्याप्त नहीं है, लेकिन हमें अपने कार्यों के माध्यम से अपने विश्वास को प्रमाणित करने की आवश्यकता है। संत पौलुस कहते हैं, ''यदि हम ईसा मसीह से संयुक्त हैं तो न ख़तने का कोई महत्व है और न उसके अभाव का। महत्व विश्वास का है, जो प्रेम से अनुप्रेरित है।” (गलात्तियों 5:6)। हमें चाहिए कि एक सक्रिय और जीवित विश्वास को अपने जीवन में पोषित करें।

📚 REFLECTION

In the Gospel we have the parable of the two sons – one who declares obedience, but does not obey and the other who declares disobedience but obeys. We can compare these two sons with the two sons of the story of the prodigal son. The prodigal son distanced himself physically from the father but at heart he had a binding with the father. On the other hand the elder son was staying with the father in his house, but he did not have a closeness of the heart with the father. He served the Father expecting to receive some rewards. Saying is not enough but we need to reflect our faith through our actions. St. Paul says, “For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything; the only thing that counts is faith working through love” (Gal 5:6). An active and living faith is what we need to cultivate.
