First Reading: Isaiah 58: 9b-14

9 Then shalt thou call, and the Lord shall hear: thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou wilt take away the chain out of the midst of thee, and cease to stretch out the finger, and to speak that which profiteth not.

10 When thou shalt pour out thy soul to the hungry, and shalt satisfy the afflicted soul then shall thy light rise up in darkness, and thy darkness shall be as the noonday.

11 And the Lord will give thee rest continually, and will fill thy soul with brightness, and deliver thy bones, and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a fountain of water whose waters shall not fail.

12 And the places that have been desolate for ages shall be built in thee: thou shalt raise up the foundations of generation and generation: and thou shalt be called the repairer of the fences, turning the paths into rest.

13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy own will in my holy day, and call the sabbath delightful, and the holy of the Lord glorious, and glorify him, while thou dost not thy own ways, and thy own will is not found: to speak a word:

14 Then shalt thou be delighted in the Lord, and I will lift thee up above the high places of the earth, and will feed thee with the inheritance of Jacob thy father. For the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.

Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 86: 1-2, 3-4, 5-6

1 A prayer for David himself. Incline thy ear, O Lord, and hear me: for I am needy and poor.

2 Preserve my soul, for I am holy: save thy servant, O my God, that trusteth in thee.

3 Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I have cried to thee all the day.

4 Give joy to the soul of thy servant, for to thee, O Lord, I have lifted up my soul.

5 For thou, O Lord, art sweet and mild: and plenteous in mercy to all that call upon thee.

6 Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer: and attend to the voice of my petition.

Gospel: Luke 5: 27-32

27 And after these things he went forth, and saw a publican named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom, and he said to him: Follow me.

28 And leaving all things, he rose up and followed him.

29 And Levi made him a great feast in his own house; and there was a great company of publicans, and of others, that were at table with them.

30 But the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying to his disciples: Why do you eat and drink with publicans and sinners?

31 And Jesus answering, said to them: They that are whole, need not the physician: but they that are sick.

32 I came not to call the just, but sinners to penance.

पहला पाठ : इसायाह 58:9-14

9) यदि तुम पुकारोगे, तो ईश्वर उत्तर देगा। यदि तुम दुहाई दोगे, तो वह कहेगा-‘देखो, मैं प्रस्तुत हूँ‘। यदि तुम अपने बीच से अत्याचार दूर करोगे, किसी पर अभियोग नहीं लगाओगे और किसी की निन्दा नहीं करोगे;

10) यदि तुम भूखों को अपनी रोटी खिलाओगे और पद्दलितों को तृप्त करोगे, तो अन्घकार में तुम्हारी ज्योति का उदय होगा और तुम्हारा अन्धकार दिन का प्रकाश बन जायेगा।

11) प्रभु निरन्तर तुम्हारा पथप्रदर्शन करेगा। वह मरुभूमि में भी तुम्हें तृप्त करेगा और तुम्हें शक्ति प्रदान करता रहेगा। तुम सींचे हुए उद्यान के सदृश बनोगे, जलस्रोत के सदृश, जिसकी धारा कभी नहीं सूखती।

12) तब तुम पुराने खँडहरों का उद्धार करोगे और पूर्वजों की नींव पर अपना नगर बसाओगे। तुम चारदीवारी की दरारें पाटने वाले और टूटे-फूटे घरों के पुनर्निर्माता कहलाओगे।

13) “यदि तुम विश्राम-दिवस का नियम भंग करना छोड़ दोगे और उस पावन दिवस को कारबार नहीं करोगे; यदि तुम उसे आनन्द का दिन, प्रभु को अर्पित तथा प्रिय दिवस समझोगे; यदि उसके आदर में यात्रा पर नहीं जाओगे, अपना कारबार नहीं करोगे और निरर्थक बातें नहीं करोगे,

14) तो तुम्हें प्रभु का आनन्द प्राप्त होगा। मैं तुम लोगों को देश के पर्वत प्रदान करूँगा और तुम्हारे पिता याकूब की विरासत में तृप्त करूँगा।“ यह प्रभु का कथन है।

सुसमाचार : सन्त लूकस का सुसमाचार 5:27-32

27) इसके बाद ईसा बाहर निकले। उन्होंने लेवी नामक नाकेदार को चुंगीघर में बैठा हुआ देखा और उस से कहा, "मेरे पीछे चले आओ"।

28) वह उठ खड़ा हुआ और अपना सब कुछ छोड़ कर ईसा के पीछे हो लिया।

29) लेवी ने अपने यहाँ ईसा के सम्मान में एक बड़ा भोज दिया। नाकेदार और अतिथि बड़ी संख्या में उनके साथ भोजन पर बैठे।

30 फरीसी और शास्त्री भुनभुनाते और उनके शिष्यों से यह कहते थे, "तुम लोग नाकेदारों और पापियों के साथ क्यों खाते-पीते हो?"

31) ईसा ने उन्हें उत्तर दिया, "निरोगियों को नहीं, रोगियों को वैद्य की ज़रूरत होती है।

32) मैं धर्मियों को नहीं, पापियों को पश्चाताप के लिए बुलाने आया हूँ।"

📚 मनन-चिंतन

येसु ने सबसे पहले जिन लोगों को उनका अनुसरण करने का आह्वान किया, वे मछुआरे थे। फिर वे जीवन के अन्य क्षेत्रों के लोगों को भी उनका अनुसरण करने के लिए बुलाते हैं। आज के सुसमाचार में हम पढ़ते हैं, येसु लेवि को चुंगी वसूली करते समय अपने कार्यालय से बुलाते हैं। एक अन्य अवसर पर उन्होंने एक अमीर आदमी को अपना अनुसरण करने बुलाया। पवित्र सुसमाचार में हम पढ़ते हैं कि येसु की कई महिला अनुयायी भी थी। यीशु ने सभी लोगों को अपने संभावित अनुयायियों के रूप में देखा। "मेरा अनुरसरण करो या फिर मेरे पीछे चले आओ" यह आह्वान हर किसी के लिए है जो इस बुलावे का उत्तर देने के लिए तत्पर है । यह उन लोगों को संबोधित किया गया था, जिन्हें उन लोगों द्वारा पापी माना जाता था, जिन्होंने परमेश्वर के नियम से जीने की पूरी कोशिश की थी। येसु उन लोगों के करीब आ गया, जिन्हें वह उसका अनुसरण करने के लिए बुला रहे थे, उन्होंने उनके साथ साथ भोजन किया बिना इस बात की परवाह किये कि लोग उनके बारे में क्या सोचेंगें या क्या बोलेंगे।

सुसमाचार हमें याद दिलाता है कि जब हम खुद को पापी समझते हैं, प्रभु तब भी हम सभी के करीब आते हैं। वे कभी भी हमारे पास आने और उसका अनुसरण करने के लिए हमें पुकारना बंद नहीं करता। हम कभी कभी सोच सकते हैं कि हमें अपने और ईश्वर के बीच एक दूरी रखनी है, लेकिन प्रभु कभी भी खुद से हमको दूर करना नहीं चाहते। वह हमेशा हमारे जीवन के दरवाजे पर खड़े रहते हैं और दस्तक देते हैं। वे हमें उसका अनुसरण करने के लिए बुला रहे हैं, ताकि दुनिया में हम उनके मिशन में साझेदारी निभा सकें।

📚 REFLECTION

The first people Jesus called to follow him were fishermen. He went on to call people from other walks of life to follow him. In this morning’s gospel reading he calls a tax collector, Levi, someone in the pay of the Romans, to follow him. On another occasion he called a rich man to follow him. The gospels also inform us that he had many women followers. Jesus looked on all people as his potential followers. His call to ‘follow me’ was addressed to all who would respond to it. It was addressed to people who were considered sinners by those who did their utmost to live by God’s law. Jesus got close to those he was calling to follow him, sharing table with them, regardless of how they were regarded by others.

The Gospel reading reminds us that the Lord is always drawing close to us, to all of us, even when we think of ourselves as sinners. He never ceases to draw near to us and to call on us to follow him. We may think that we have to put a distance between ourselves and the Lord, but the Lord never puts a distance between himself and us. He is always standing at the door of our lives and knocking, calling out to us to follow him, to walk in his way so as to share in his mission in the world.
