First Reading: Acts 4: 13-21

13 Now seeing the constancy of Peter and of John, understanding that they were illiterate and ignorant men, they wondered; and they knew them that they had been with Jesus.

14 Seeing the man also who had been healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.

15 But they commanded them to go aside out of the council; and they conferred among themselves,

16 Saying: What shall we do to these men? for indeed a known miracle hath been done by them, to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem: it is manifest, and we cannot deny it.

17 But that it may be no farther spread among the people, let us threaten them that they speak no more in this name to any man.

18 And calling them, they charged them not to speak at all, nor teach in the name of Jesus.

19 But Peter and John answering, said to them: If it be just in the sight of God, to hear you rather than God, judge ye.

20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.

21 But they threatening, sent them away, not finding how they might punish them, because of the people; for all men glorified what had been done, in that which had come to pass.

Gospel: Mark 16: 9-15

9 But he rising early the first day of the week, appeared first to Mary Magdalen, out of whom he had cast seven devils.

10 She went and told them that had been with him, who were mourning and weeping.

11 And they hearing that he was alive, and had been seen by her, did not believe.

12 And after that he appeared in another shape to two of them walking, as they were going into the country.

13 And they going told it to the rest: neither did they believe them.

14 At length he appeared to the eleven as they were at table: and he upbraided them with their incredulity and hardness of heart, because they did not believe them who had seen him after he was risen again.

15 And he said to them: Go ye into the whole world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

पहला पाठ : प्रेरित-चरित 4:13-21

13) पेत्रुस और योहन का आत्मविश्वास देखकर और इन्हें अशिक्षित तथा अज्ञानी जान कर, महासभा के सदस्य अचम्भे में पड़ गये। फिर, वे पहचान गये कि ये ईसा के साथ रह चुके हैं,

14) किन्तु स्वस्थ किये गये मनुष्य को इनके साथ खड़ा देखकर, वे उत्तर में कुछ नहीं बोल सके।

15) उन्होंने पेत्रुस और योहन को सभा से बाहर जाने का आदेश दिया और यह कहते हुए आपस में परामर्श किया,

16) ’’हम इन लोगों के साथ क्या करें? येरुसालेम में रहने वाले सभी लोगों को यह मालूम हो गया कि इन्होंने एक अपूर्व चमत्कार दिखाया है। हम यह अस्वीकार नहीं कर सकते।

17) फिर भी जनता में इसका और अधिक प्रचार न हो, इसलिए हम इन्हें कड़ी चेतावनी दें कि अब से ईसा के नाम पर किसी से कुछ नहीं कहोगे।’’

18) उन्होंने पेत्रुस तथा योहन को फिर बुला भेजा और उन्हें आदेश दिया कि वे न तो जनता को सम्बोधित करें और न ईसा का नाम ले कर शिक्षा दें।

19) इस पर पेत्रुस और योहन ने उन्हें यह उत्तर दिया, ’’आप लोग स्वयं निर्णय करें-क्या ईश्वर की दृष्टि में यह उचित होगा कि हम ईश्वर की नहीं, बल्कि आप लोगों की बात मानें?

20) क्योंकि हमने जो देखा और सुना है, उसके विषय में नहीं बोलना हमारे लिए सम्भव नहीं।’’

21) इस पर उन्होंने पेत्रुस और योहन को फिर धमकाने के बाद जाने दिया। वे नहीं समझ पा रहे थे कि उन्हें किस प्रकार दण्ड दिया जाये, क्योंकि उस घटना के कारण सारी जनता ईश्वर की स्तुति करती थी।

सुसमाचार : सन्त मारकुस का सुसमाचार 16:9-15

9) ईसा सप्ताह के प्रथम दिन प्रातः जी उठे। वे पहले मरियम मगदलेना को, जिस से उन्होंने सात अपदूतों को निकाला था, दिखाई दिये।

10) उसने जा कर उनके शोक मनाते और विलाप करते हुए अनुयायियों को यह समाचार सुनाया।

11) किन्तु जब उन्होंने यह सुना कि ईसा जीवित हैं और उसने उन्हें देखा है, तो उन्हें इस पर विश्वास नहीं हुआ।

12) इसके बाद ईसा दूसरे वेश में उन में दो को दिखाई दिये, जो पैदल देहात जा रहे थे।

13) उन्होंने लौट कर शेष शिष्यों को यह समाचार सुनाया, किन्तु शिष्यों को उन दोनों पर भी विश्वास नहीं हुआ।

14) बाद में ईसा ग्यारहों को उनके भोजन करते समय दिखाई दिये और उन्होंने उनके अविश्वास और उनकी हठधर्मी की निन्दा की; क्योंकि उन्होंने उन लागों पर विश्वास नहीं किया था, जिन्होंने ईसा को पुनर्जीवित देखा था।

15) इसके बाद ईसा ने उन से कहा, ’’संसार के कोने-कोने में जाकर सारी सृष्टि को सुसमाचार सुनाओ।

📚 मनन-चिंतन

साहस प्रेरितों तथा आदिम कलीसिया की पहचान थी। वे पुनरूत्थित येसु और उनके द्वारा मुक्ति में पूर्णत विश्वास करते थे। उनका यह नवीन विश्वास उनमें उत्साह का संचार करता था तथा वे विश्वास में बने रहने के लिये अपना सबकुछ दांव पर लगा देते थे। वे जानते थे येसु में लाभ जीवन की सारी हानियों से श्रेष्ठ था। उनका साहस इतना विस्मय था कि ये अपने आप में उनके विश्वास की गवाही बन गया था। अत्याचार के दौरान उनके साहस ने अनेकों को विश्वास ग्रहण करने के लिये प्रेरित किया।

अशिक्षित प्रेरित पेत्रुस और योहन का साहस एवं दृढता देखकर शासक एवं शास्त्री भी अंचभित थे। वे महसूस करते तथा जानते थे कि उनके साहस का कारण येसु के साथ उनकी मित्रता थी। शासकों तथा धर्माधिकारियों के पास ताकत तथा अधिकार था कि वे पेत्रुस और योहन को कोई भी यंत्रणा दे सकते थे किन्तु वे उनकी दृढता तथा विश्वास उनसे दूर नहीं कर सकते थे। योहन और पेत्रुस का साहस ईश्वर का वरदान था। शासकों को निराश होकर उन्हें छोड देना पडा।

जब हम दबाव एवं डर की परिस्थितियों से गुजरते हैं तो हम क्या करते हैं? क्या हम मौन होकर समर्पण कर देते हैं? या तनाव एवं दबाव हमें तोड देता? यदि ऐसा है तो हमें पेत्रुस और योहन तथा प्रेरित-चरित में उल्लेखित विश्वास के नायकों की ओर देखना चाहिये कि किस प्रकार इस विषम परिस्थितियों में और अधिक साहस एवं दृढता के लिये प्रार्थना करते हैं, ’’प्रभु! तू उनकी धमकियों पर ध्यान दे और अपने सेवकों को यह कृपा प्रदान कर कि वे निर्भीकता से तेरा वचन सुनाये।.......उनकी प्रार्थना समाप्त होने पर वह भवज जहॉ वे एकत्र थे, हिल गया। सब पवित्र आत्मा से परिपूर्ण हो गये और निर्भीकता के साथ ईश्वर का वचन सुनाते रहे।’’ (प्रेरित-चरित 4:29, 31) इस प्रकार की प्रार्थनाओं द्वारा उन्होंने विरोधियों तथा दबाव का सामना किया। ईश्वर ने साहस, सामर्थ्य का आत्मा प्रदान किया जिससे प्रभु का मिशन निरंतर आगे बढता गया। तिमथी को लिखते समय संत पौलुस हमें स्मरण दिलाते हैं, ’’ईश्वर ने हमें भीरुता का नहीं, बल्कि सामर्थ्य, प्रेम तथा आत्मसंयम का मनोभाव प्रदान किया।’’ (2 तिमथी 1:7) आइये हम भी प्रार्थना करे कि ईश्वर हमें साहस का आत्मा प्रदान करे।

📚 REFLECTION

Boldness had been the earmark of the apostles and early Christian community. They had been deeply convinced of the risen Lord and salvation in him. their enthusiasm led them to risk anything for the sake of their newly imbibed faith. For they knew that no loss is a real loss in the comparison with the gain in Jesus. Their boldness was so astonishing that it itself became an edifying witness. In the face of persecution their boldness brought many people to faith.

Seeing the boldness of the uneducated Peter and John the rulers, elders and the scribes were clueless. They also realized that their boldness was the result of their association with Jesus. They had the power to inflict anything on them but they couldn’t take away their boldness and conviction in Jesus. For the boldness of Peter and John was the gift from God. In their frustration they had to let them go.

Whenever we are faced with fear and pressure what we do? Do we go silent and become submissive? Or the pressure and tension break us down? If this is the case with us then look at Peter and John and heroes of Acts of the apostles how they even prayer for boldness and courage to overcome fear, “When they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God with boldness. (Acts 4:29-31) that is how they handled the opposition and their own fear. God granted them the spirit of power so that they may carry out His mission without inhibition. St. Paul reminds us through Timothy that, “For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline.” (2 Timothy 1:7)

Let pray to the Father to send the Spirit of boldness.
