First Reading: Songs 2: 8-14 or Zephaniah 3: 14-18a

8 The voice of my beloved, behold he cometh leaping upon the mountains, skipping over the hills.

9 My beloved is like a roe, or a young hart. Behold he standeth behind our wall, looking through the windows, looking through the lattices.

10 Behold my beloved speaketh to me: Arise, make haste, my love, my dove, my beautiful one, and come.

11 For winter is now past, the rain is over and gone.

12 The flowers have appeared in our land, the time of pruning is come: the voice of the turtle is heard in our land:

13 The fig tree hath put forth her green figs: the vines in flower yield their sweet smell. Arise, my love, my beautiful one, and come:

14 My dove in the clefts of the rock, in the hollow places of the wall, shew me thy face, let thy voice sound in my ears: for thy voice is sweet, and thy face comely.

14 Give praise, O daughter of Sion: shout, O Israel: be glad, and rejoice with all thy heart, O daughter of Jerusalem.

15 The Lord hath taken away thy judgment, he hath turned away thy enemies: the king of Israel the Lord is in the midst of thee, thou shalt fear evil no more.

16 In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem: Fear not: to Sion: Let not thy hands be weakened.

17 The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty, he will save: he will rejoice over thee with gladness, he will be silent in his love, he will be joyful over thee in praise.

18 The triflers that were departed from the law, I will gather together, because they were of thee: that thou mayest no more suffer reproach for them.

2 Give praise to the Lord on the harp; sing to him with the psaltery, the instrument of ten strings.

3 Sing to him a new canticle, sing well unto him with a loud noise.

11 But the counsel of the Lord standeth for ever: the thoughts of his heart to all generations.

12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord: the people whom he hath chosen for his inheritance.

20 Our soul waiteth for the Lord: for he is our helper and protector.

21 For in him our heart shall rejoice: and in his holy name we have trusted.

Gospel: Luke 1: 39-45

39 And Mary rising up in those days, went into the hill country with haste into a city of Juda.

40 And she entered into the house of Zachary, and saluted Elizabeth.

41 And it came to pass, that when Elizabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the infant leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:

42 And she cried out with a loud voice, and said: Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.

43 And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?

44 For behold as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy.

45 And blessed art thou that hast believed, because those things shall be accomplished that were spoken to thee by the Lord.

📒 पहला पाठ: सुलेमान का सर्वश्रेष्ठ गीत 2:8-14

8) मैं अपने प्रियतम की आवाज सुन रही हूँ- देखो! वह पर्वतों पर उछलते-कूदते, पहाड़ियों को लाँघते हुए आ रहा है।

9) मेरा प्रियतम चिकारे के सदृश है अथवा तरूण मृग के सदृश। देखो! वह हमारी दीवार के ओट में खड़ा है, वह खिड़की से ताक रहा है, वह जाली में से झाँक रहा है।

10) मेरा प्रियतम बोल रहा है। वह मुझ से यह कहता है,

11) ‘‘प्रिये! सुन्दरी! उठो, मेरे साथ चलो। देखो! शीतकाल बीत गया है, वर्षा-ऋतु समाप्त हो गयी है।

12) पृथ्वी पर फूल खिनने लगे हैं। गीत गाने का समय आ गया है और हमारे देश में कपोत की कूजन सुनाई दे रही है।

13) अंजीर के पेड़ में नये फल लग गये हैं और दाखलताओं के फूल महक रहे है। प्रिये! सुन्दरी! उठो, मेरे साथ चलो।

14) चट्टानों की दरारों में, पर्वतों की गुफाओें में छिपने वाली, मेरी कपोती! मुझे अपना मुख दिखाओे, अपनी आवाज़ सुनने दो, क्योंकि तुम्हारा कण्ठ मधुर है और तुम्हारा मुख सुन्दर है।‘‘

📙 सुसमाचार : सन्त लूकस 1:39-45

39) उन दिनों मरियम पहाड़ी प्रदेश में यूदा के एक नगर के लिए शीघ्रता से चल पड़ी।

40) उसने ज़करियस के घर में प्रवेश कर एलीज़बेथ का अभिवादन किया।

41) ज्यों ही एलीज़बेथ ने मरियम का अभिवादन सुना, बच्चा उसके गर्भ में उछल पड़ा और एलीज़बेथ पवित्र आत्मा से परिपूर्ण हो गयी।

42) वह ऊँचे स्वर से बोली उठी, ’’आप नारियों में धन्य हैं और धन्य है आपके गर्भ का फल!

43) मुझे यह सौभाग्य कैसे प्राप्त हुआ कि मेरे प्रभु की माता मेरे पास आयीं?

44) क्योंकि देखिए, ज्यों ही आपका प्रणाम मेरे कानों में पड़ा, बच्चा मेरे गर्भ में आनन्द के मारे उछल पड़ा।

45) और धन्य हैं आप, जिन्होंने यह विश्वास किया कि प्रभु ने आप से जो कहा, वह पूरा हो जायेगा!’’

मनन-चिंतन

ईश्वपुत्र की माँ के रूप में चुने जाने के बारे में बताया जाने के बाद, मरियम एलिजाबेथ के पास जाती हैं। वे किसलिए गयी होंगी? एलिजाबेथ पहले से ही उनके समान ईश्वर-अनुभव रखती है। ईश्वर ने उसे उसके बुढ़ापे में मसीह के अग्रदूत योहन बपतिस्ता की माँ बनने की कृपा दी और वह गर्भवति हो गयी थी। कुँवारी मरियम को बताया गया था कि वे भी एक पुरुष के सहयोग के बिना ईशपुत्र को गर्भ में धारण करेंगी। मरियम एलिजाबेथ के साथ ईश्वर-अनुभव की अपनी खुशी को बाँटना चाहती हैं और एलिजाबेथ भी अपने ईश्वर-अनुभव की खुशी मरियम के साथ बाँटती है। मरियम के एलिज़बेथ के पास जाने का दूसरा कारण उनकी सेवा करने का हो सकता है। उन्हें पता चलता है कि बुढ़ापे में एलिजाबेथ गर्भवती हो गई है और उसे दिन-प्रतिदिन की गतिविधियों में सहायता की आवश्यकता है। यही कारण है कि मरियम उसकी सेवा करने के लिए लगभग तीन महीने तक एलिजाबेथ के साथ रही। तीसरा कारण एक दूसरे के विश्वास को मजबूत करना हो सकता है। इन दोनों व्यक्तियों को कई रहस्यों का अनुभव मिलता है जिनके कई ऐसे पहलू भी हैं जो उन्हें ज्ञात नहीं हैं। ये दो महिलाएं जिन्होंने ईश्वर से महान अनुग्रह पाया और एक-दूसरे की सराहना की अब एक साथ मिल कर ईश्वर की महिमा करना चाहती हैं। जब हम साथ मिलते हैं तो क्या हम ईश्वर की महिमा करते हैं?

REFLECTION

After being told about her being chosen as the mother of the Son of God, Mary rushes to Elizabeth. What could have been her motivation? Elizabeth already has had a God-experience similar to hers. Her womb was opened by God and she conceived John the Baptist, the forerunner of the Messiah in her old age. Mary was told that she too would conceive and bear a son, of course, in her case without the intervention of a man. Mary wants to share her joy of God-experience with Elizabeth and wants to share in the joy of the God-experience of Elizabeth. The second motivation for Mary must have been one of service. She realises that Elizabeth in her old age had become pregnant and needed assistance in the day to day activities. That is why Mary stayed with Elizabeth for about three months to serve her. A third reason could be to strengthen each other’s faith. There are many mysteries revealed to both of them. Yet there are many aspects of these mysteries not known to them. Two women who found favour with God, who appreciated and encouraged each other, came together to glorify God. When we come together do we glorify God?
