23) तो स्वामी ने नौकर से कहा, ’सड़कों पर और बाड़ों के आसपास जा कर लोगों को भीतर आने के लिए बाध्य करो, जिससे मेरा घर भर जाये;

📚 REFLECTION

In this world we get different kinds of invitation, it may be a wedding invitation or baptism invitation, any lunch invitation or house blessing invitation, any invitation for program or invitation for feast, job invitation or for the work invitation etc. Whether to go or not to go in all these invitations depend on each individual’s free will, time and situation. In today’s gospel too we see one parable regarding an invitation, where a certain man prepared a great banquet and invited many guests. But the invited guests showing their busy works fail to go for the invitation. Then the banquet was given to others and those who were invited got deprive of the banquet.

Brothers and sisters in Christ Lord Jesus too invite us everyday to prepare ourselves to enter into the Kingdom of God but sometimes we do not realize that invitation or after realizing also we reject. Invitation of God can be to spend time with God in prayer or to go in any prayer meeting or to participate in the Holy Mass, or to help someone or to forgive someone or to lend some money to someone or to encourage someone or to talk in pleasant manner etc can be the invitation of God for each day which is based on the word of God. Do we participate in the invitation of God or showing our busy schedule we reject God’s invitation?

What is more important for us God’s invitation or the works of the world? If we give more importance or give excuse only for the works of the world then we may also fail to receive the heavenly banquet and instead of us whom we do not expect may receive our place and share. As followers of Christ or being Christian we have received the benefit of entering the heaven but if we reject the invitation or if we do not try our best to make us eligible for the heavenly banquet then instead of us those people will get the place who even do not know Christ Jesus as some Jews rejected the invitation of Jesus so the invitation went to all the non-Jews. Let’s pray that we can recognize God’s invitation and can participate in it by all possible ways. Amen

THE COMMEMORATION OF ALL THE FAITHFUL DEPARTED (ALL SOULS)

First Reading: Wisdom 3: 1-9

1 But the souls of the just are in the hand of God, and the torment of death shall not touch them.

2 In the sight of the unwise they seemed to die: and their departure was taken for misery:

3 And their going away from us, for utter destruction: but they are in peace.

4 And though in the sight of men they suffered torments, their hope is full of immortality.

5 Afflicted in few things, in many they shall be well rewarded: because God hath tried them, and found them worthy of himself.

6 As gold in the furnace he hath proved them, and as a victim of a holocaust he hath received them, and in time there shall be respect had to them.

7 The just shall shine, and shall run to and fro like sparks among the reeds.

8 They shall judge nations, and rule over people, and their Lord shall reign for ever.

9 They that trust in him, shall understand the truth: and they that are faithful in love shall rest in him: for grace and peace is to his elect.

Responsorial Psalm: Romans 5: 5-11 or Romans 6:3-9

5 And hope confoundeth not: because the charity of God is poured forth in our hearts, by the Holy Ghost, who is given to us.

6 For why did Christ, when as yet we were weak, according to the time, die for the ungodly?

7 For scarce for a just man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man some one would dare to die.

8 But God commendeth his charity towards us; because when as yet we were sinners, according to the time,

9 Christ died for us; much more therefore, being now justified by his blood, shall we be saved from wrath through him.

10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son; much more, being reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.

11 And not only so; but also we glory in God, through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received reconciliation.

or

3 Know you not that all we, who are baptized in Christ Jesus, are baptized in his death?

4 For we are buried together with him by baptism into death; that as Christ is risen from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we also may walk in newness of life.

5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection.

6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin may be destroyed, to the end that we may serve sin no longer.

7 For he that is dead is justified from sin.

8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall live also together with Christ:

9 Knowing that Christ rising again from the dead, dieth now no more, death shall no more have dominion over him.

Gospel: John 6: 37-40

37 All that the Father giveth to me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me, I will not cast out.

38 Because I came down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him that sent me.

39 Now this is the will of the Father who sent me: that of all that he hath given me, I should lose nothing; but should raise it up again in the last day.

40 And this is the will of my Father that sent me: that every one who seeth the Son, and believeth in him, may have life everlasting, and I will raise him up in the last day.

37) पिता जिन्हें मुझ को सौंप देता है, वे सब मेरे पास आयेंगे और जो मेरे पास आता है, मैं उसे कभी नहीं ठुकराऊँगा ;

18) मैं समझता हूँ कि हम में जो महिमा प्रकट होने को है, उसकी तुलना में इस समय का दुःख नगण्य है;

34) "तब राजा अपने दायें के लोगों से कहेंगे, ’मेरे पिता के कृपापात्रों! आओ और उस राज्य के अधिकारी बनो, जो संसार के प्रारम्भ से तुम लोगों के लिए तैयार किया गया है;

35) क्योंकि मैं भूखा था और तुमने मुझे खिलाया; मैं प्यासा था तुमने मुझे पिलाया; मैं परदेशी था और तुमने मुझको अपने यहाँ ठहराया;

41) "तब वे अपने बायें के लोगों से कहेंगे, ’शापितों! मुझ से दूर हट जाओ। उस अनन्त आग में जाओ, जो शैतान और उसके दूतों के लिए तैयार की गई है;

42) क्योंकि मैं भूखा था और तुम लोगों ने मुझे नहीं खिलाया; मैं प्यासा था और तुमने मुझे नहीं पिलाया;

📚 REFLECTION

Life and death is true reality which all of us have to undergo. Anyone who comes in this world has to go also from this world. Today the whole world is going through the dangerous situation of corona pandemic where many have lost their near and dear ones. This pandemic has highlighted the reality of death in more striking way. Death is a reality through which our ancestors have gone through and one day we also have to go through it can be through corona or any other means.

Usually people are afraid of death because they do not know what will happen after death. Some have the view that death is the ultimate and there is nothing after death. By Resurrection of Jesus, Jesus revealed the mystery of life after death. Not only this but Jesus has explained about after-life and Kingdom of God in his words and through various parables that Heaven is our ultimate destination and we have to try our best to reach there. Death reminds us that we are not made of body alone but we are made of both body and soul. Mt. 10:28 tells us, “Don't be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Instead, fear the one who can destroy both body and soul in hell.” We have to save our body and soul to be destroyed in hell.

Yesterday we celebrated All Saints day, the saints who departed from this world and are now living in the presence of God adoring and glorifying God. Today the Catholic Church is remembering all the departed souls who have gone from this world but are struggling in purgatory to be purified. Today we remember all those who departed from us and are remaining in purgatory. We need to pray for them so that their sins may be forgiven and they will be able to enter heaven. This is the day to remember all our departed family members, relatives, benefactors and friends and to pray for them if they are still in purgatory.

This day also reminds us of the reality of death and our ultimate destination that is heaven. We need to live this life as we are the heirs of Kingdom of heaven. Those who live like this they do not have the fear of death as St. Paul says, “For to me, living is Christ and dying is gain.” (Phil. 1:21) Since Kingdom of heaven is the destination of us believers, death is not the moment of mourning but it is the joy of entering into eternal life or eternal happiness.

Today let’s pray for our departed brothers and sisters whom we know as well as whom we do not know and for whom there is no one to pray for them. May Almighty God forgive their sins and help them to enter in His Kingdom. Amen

Mass for today 1 November 2020

               Mass Readings for today

First Reading: Revelation 7:2-4, 9-14

2 And I saw another angel  ascending from the rising of the sun, having the sign of the living God; and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea,

3 Saying: Hurt not the earth, nor the sea, nor the trees, till we sign the servants of our God in their foreheads.

4 And I heard the number of them that were signed, an hundred forty-four thousand were signed, of every tribe of the children of Israel.

9 After this I saw a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and tribes, and peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne, and in sight of the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands:

10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying: Salvation to our God, who sitteth upon the throne, and to the Lamb.

11 And all the angels stood round about the throne, and the ancients, and the four living creatures; and they fell down before the throne upon their faces, and adored God,

12 Saying: Amen. Benediction, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, honour, and power, and strength to our God for ever and ever. Amen.

13 And one of the ancients answered, and said to me: These that are clothed in white robes, who are they? and whence came they?

14 And I said to him: My Lord, thou knowest. And he said to me: These are they who are come out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and have made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 24: 1b-2, 3-4ab, 5-6

1 On the first day of the week, a psalm for David. The earth is the Lord’s and the fulness thereof: the world, and all they that dwell therein.

2 For he hath founded it upon the seas; and hath prepared it upon the rivers.

3 Who shall ascend into the mountain of the Lord: or who shall stand in his holy place?

4 The innocent in hands, and clean of heart, who hath not taken his soul in vain, nor sworn deceitfully to his neighbour.

5 He shall receive a blessing from the Lord, and mercy from God his Saviour.

6 This is the generation of them that seek him, of them that seek the face of the God of Jacob.

Second Reading: First John 3: 1-3

1 Behold what manner of charity the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called, and should be the sons of God. Therefore the world knoweth not us, because it knew not him.

2 Dearly beloved, we are now the sons of God; and it hath not yet appeared what we shall be. We know, that, when he shall appear, we shall be like to him: because we shall see him as he is.

3 And every one that hath this hope in him, sanctifieth himself, as he also is holy.

Gospel: Matthew 5: 1-12a

1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain, and when he was set down, his disciples came unto him.

2 And opening his mouth, he taught them, saying:

3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4 Blessed are the meek: for they shall possess the land.

5 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

6 Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice: for they shall have their fill.

7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

8 Blessed are the clean of heart: for they shall see God.

9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called children of God.

10 Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 Blessed are ye when they shall revile you, and persecute you, and speak all that is evil against you, untruly, for my sake:

12 Be glad and rejoice, for your reward is very great in heaven. For so they persecuted the prophets that were before you.

📚 REFLECTION

Today Carlo Aqutis is well known name and all the more he is famous all over especially in the field of internet and social media and also known as the patron of internet. A youth whom Pope Francis declared him Blessed on 10th October and now he is on the way to sainthood; A youth who lived a true Christian live in this modern world. He was fond of Eucharistic Adoration and Holy Mass. When his body was exhumed for the purpose of blessed it was found incorruptible. This youth has taught us that in this modern time how we can still live a divine and saintly life.

Today the Catholic Church is celebrating all Saints Feast. Like Carlo there are many whom Catholic Church have canonized Saints and some are still on the process of Sainthood. This day we remember all Saints who by surrendering their lives to God taught us how we can be near to God and how we can live in the presence of God even in this modern time.

Whenever we are being asked that what we want to become in life then our usual answers use to be Doctor, Engineer, Police, Army, Singer, Dancer, Scientist, Politician etc. but nobody wants to say or minimal people will say that I want to become a Saint. This is all because of our mind set and view with regard to saints. We think that to become Saint we also have to become holy, we have to do many sacrifices, we have to do lot of prayers and fasting, we have to undergo pain and suffering for the welfare of the people or this live is only for fathers and sisters, or saints are holy and extraordinary from childhood onwards etc. Because of all these mindset people do not want to be a saint. They are happy as they are. It is not that we do not like saints or we are not affected by their lives. Saints lives affects us and we like to listen about them and about the wonderful works happened in their lives and even we pray to them but to live a saintly live very few people come forward.

We think that to become saint we have to extraordinary or big-big works but it is not like that saints are those who do the ordinary works in faithfulness and with full dedication by surrendering their life to God and God does extraordinary works through their lives.

Saints too are like us- Like us they are being born, like us they did their daily tasks, they lived among the people spending their pleasant life by talking, laughing, helping, doing daily tasks and sharing their lives with the people. Then what is the thing which makes them different from this world?

In order to know this we need to understand today’s first reading which is from the book of Revelation . St. John in his vision sees a great multitude from every nation, tribe, people and language standing before the throne and before the Lamb. And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures. Falling down on their faces they were worshipping God saying, “Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honour and power and strength be to our God forever and ever. Amen!” This tells us that all the angels, saints and divine beings who are living in heaven are worshipping and Glorifying God. In other words there is continuous glorification and worship goes on in heaven.

What make saints different from others is that through their lives they bring the heavenly atmosphere to this world. That is as the glorification and honour of God is happening in heaven similarly Saints glorify and honour God by living on this earth. Glorifying God means making known the name of God by obeying and spreading the Word of God. Glorifying God can also be done by us too. It is not that we don’t glorify God. We do glorify God but the difference is that we glorify God according to the time, situation and need. But Saints live their whole life glorifying God everyday. Through their daily work they glorified God like St. Teresa of little flower glorified God by doing her daily work with full dedication, St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Augustine glorified God through their divine knowledge and teachings of Catholic Church, St. Anthony glorified God through the preaching, Evangelists glorified God through the Gospel writing, St. Mother Teresa glorified God by serving the poor and destitute, St. Alphonsa glorified God by bearing the sufferings for others. Like this there are many saints who have glorified God through their teachings, writings, preaching, sermons, spirituality, simple life, prayer and so on.

Saints have done all their work keeping God at the first place and they lived their lives glorifying God not glorifying self and this is what makes us different from them. We usually spend our lives for our glorification, we do the works so that we may receive appreciation from people and for this reason we fail to glorify God all the time. We too need to do as St. Paul says in 1 Cor. 10:31, “Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”

Another thing which makes Saints different from the world is that they lived godly live rather than worldly life which we read in today’s gospel passage popularly known as the beatitudes. The present world totally has different thoughts and view than what is being written in the beatitudes. Like in this present world who would like to be poor in spirit and humble, today all wants to be called big and want to be called great. But Saints imbibed the quality of beatitudes and showed the world that even in this time too we can live this live.

All saints feast is a source of inspiration and filled with divine knowledge. Let’s try to walk the path which saints have shown us because we all are called to be a saint. Amen
