1 And the word of the Lord came to Jonas the second time, saying:

2 Arise, and go to Ninive the great city: and preach in it the preaching that I bid thee.

3 And Jonas arose, and went to Ninive, according to the word of the Lord: now Ninive was a great city of three days’ journey.

4 And Jonas began to enter into the city one day’s journey: and he cried, and said: Yet forty days, and Ninive shall be destroyed.

5 And the men of Ninive believed in God: and they proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth from the greatest to the least.

6 And the word came to the king of Ninive; and he rose up out of his throne, and cast away his robe from him, and was clothed with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.

7 And he caused it to be proclaimed and published in Ninive from the mouth of the king and of his princes, saying: Let neither men nor beasts, oxen nor sheep, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water.

8 And let men and beasts be covered with sackcloth, and cry to the Lord with all their strength, and let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the iniquity that is in their hands.

9 Who can tell if God will turn, and forgive: and will turn away from his fierce anger, and we shall not perish?

10 And God saw their works, that they were turned from their evil way: and God had mercy with regard to the evil which he had said that he would do to them, and he did it not.

30 For as Jonas was a sign to the Ninivites; so shall the Son of man also be to this generation.

31 The queen of the south shall rise in the judgment with the men of this generation, and shall condemn them: because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold more than Solomon here.

32 The men of Ninive shall rise in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it; because they did penance at the preaching of Jonas; and behold more than Jonas here.

पहला पाठ : योना 3:1-10

1) प्रभु के वाणी योना को दूसरी बार यह कहते हुए सुनाई पडी,

2) "उठो! महानगर निनीवे जा कर वहाँ के लोगों को उपदेश दो, जैसा कि मैंने तुम्हें बताया है"।

3) इस पर योना उठ खडा हुआ और प्रभु के आज्ञानुसार निनीवे चला गया। निनीवे एक बहुत बड़ा शहर था। उसे पार करने में तीन दिन लगते थे।

4) योना ने उस में प्रवेश किया और एक दिन की यात्रा पूरी करने के बाद वह इस प्रकार उपदेश देने, लगा "चालीस दिन के बाद निनीवे का विनाश किया जायेगा"।

5) निनीवे के लोगों ने ईश्वर की बात पर विश्वास किया। उन्होंने उपवास की घोषणा की और बडों से लेकर छोटों तक सबों ने टाट ओढ लिया।

6) निनीवे के राजा ने यह खबर सुनी। उसने अपना सिंहासन छोड दिया, अपने वस्त्र उतार कर टाट पहन लिया और वह राख पर बैठ गया।

7) इसके बाद उसने निनीवे में यह आदेश घोषित किया, "यह राजा तथा उसके सामन्तों का आदेश है: चाहे मनुष्य हो या पशु, गाय-बैल हो या भेड-बकरी, कोई भी न तो खायेगा, न चरेगा और न पानी पियेगा।

8) सभी व्यक्ति टाट ओढ कर पूरी शक्ति से ईश्वर की दुहाई देंगे। सभी अपना कुमार्ग तथा अपने हाथों से होने वाले हिंसात्मक कार्य छोड दें।

9) क्या जाने ईश्वर द्रवित हो जाये, उसका क्रोध शान्त हो जाये और हमारा विनाश न हो"।

10) ईश्वर ने देखा कि वे क्या कर रहे हैं और किस प्रकार उन्होंने कुमार्ग छोड दिया है, तो वह द्रवित हो गया और उसने जिस विपत्ति की धमकी दी थी, उसे उन पर नहीं आने दिया।

सुसमाचार : सन्त लूकस का सुसमाचार 11:29-32

29) भीड़-की-भीड़ उनके चारों ओर उमड़ रही थी और वे कहने लगे, "यह एक विधर्मी पीढ़ी है। यह एक चिन्ह माँगती है, परन्तु नबी योनस के चिन्ह को छोड़ इसे और कोई चिन्ह नहीं दिया जायेगा।

30) जिस प्रकार योनस निनिवे-निवासियों के लिए एक चिन्ह बन गया था, उसी प्रकार मानव पुत्र भी इस पीढ़ी के लिए एक चिन्ह बन जायेगा।

31) न्याय के दिन दक्षिण की रानी इस पीढ़ी के लोगों के साथ जी उठेगी और इन्हें दोषी ठहरायेगी, क्योंकि वह सुलेमान की प्रज्ञा सुनने के लिए पृथ्वी के सीमान्तों से आयी थी, और देखो-यहाँ वह है, जो सुलेमान से भी महान् है!

32) न्याय के दिन निनिवे के लोग इस पीढ़ी के साथ जी उठेंगे और इसे दोषी ठहरायेंगे, क्योंकि उन्होंने योनस का उपदेश सुन कर पश्चात्ताप किया था, और देखो-यहाँ वह है, जो योनस से भी महान् है!

📚 मनन-चिंतन

आज के सुसमाचार में, येसु ने खुद को सुलेमान व नबी योना से बड़ा घोषित किया। इस सूचि में हम जोड़ सकते हैं- अब्राहम से अधिक, मूसा से अधिक, इसायाह, से अधिक आदि । येसु यहूदी धर्मग्रंथ की सभी प्रमुख हस्तियों से बड़े है क्योंकि येसु का सम्बन्ध पिता ईश्वर से इन सब महान हस्तियों से अधिक गहरा व घनिष्ठ है । येसु के पिता के सम्बन्ध की धनिष्ठा हम उन्हें ईश्वर का पुत्र कहकर व्यक्त करते हैं। ईश्वर के साथ येसु का संबंध अपने आप में अद्वितीय है। वही येसु आज ईश्वर के साथ अपने बहुत करीबी रिश्ते में भागीदार होने के लिए हमें बुलाते हैं । वो हमारे हृदयों अपना आत्मा उंढ़ेलते हैं, जिससे प्रेरित होकर हम ईश्वर को ’अब्बापिता , पिता’ कह सकें। पवित्र आत्मा के माध्यम से, हम येसु के भाई और बहन बन जाते हैं; आज हमारा आह्वान है उस रिश्ते में जुड़ने का जिसके द्वारा येसु के भाई व बहनेँ बनकर पिता ईश्वर की प्रिय संतान बन जाते हैं।

📚 REFLECTION

In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus declares of himself that he is greater than Solomon and greater than Jonah. We could add to that list – greater than Abraham, greater than Moses, greater than Isaiah or Jeremiah. Jesus is greater than all the leading figures of the Jewish Scriptures because he has a closer relationship with God than all who went before him.

We express this close relationship Jesus has with God by saying that Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus’ relationship with God is unique to himself. Yet, he came into the world to draw us all into his own very close relationship with God. He pours his Spirit, the Holy Spirit, into our hearts, so that we, like him, can call God ‘Abba, Father’. Through the Holy Spirit, we become brothers and sisters of Jesus; we come to share in his own intimate relationship with God. Our calling is to live out of that relationship, to live as brothers and sisters of Jesus, as sons and daughters of God. We pray that this season of Lent would help us to live that calling more fully.

पहला पाठ : इसायाह 55:10-11

10) जिस तरह पानी और बर्फ़ आकाश से उतर कर भूमि सींचे बिना, उसे उपजाऊ बनाये और हरियाली से ढके बिना वहाँ नहीं लौटते, जिससे भूमि बीज बोने वाले को बीज और खाने वाले को अनाज दे सके,

11) उसी तरह मेरी वाणी मेरे मुख से निकल कर व्यर्थ ही मेरे पास नहीं लौटती। मैं जो चाहता था, वह उसे कर देती है और मेरा उद्देश्य पूरा करने के बाद ही वह मेरे पास लौट आती है।

सुसमाचार : सन्त मत्ती का सुसमाचार 6:7-15

7) "प्रार्थना करते समय ग़ैर-यहूदियों की तरह रट नहीं लगाओ। वे समझते हैं कि लम्बी-लम्बी प्रार्थनाएँ करने से हमारी सुनवाई होती है।

8) उनके समान नहीं बनो, क्योंकि तुम्हारे माँगने से पहले ही तुम्हारा पिता जानता है कि तुम्हें किन किन चीज़ों की ज़रूरत है।

9) तो इस प्रकार प्रार्थना किया करो- स्वर्ग में विराजमान हमारे पिता! तेरा नाम पवित्र माना जाये।

10) तेरा राज्य आये। तेरी इच्छा जैसे स्वर्ग में, वैसे पृथ्वी पर भी पूरी हो।

11) आज हमारा प्रतिदिन का आहार हमें दे।

12) हमारे अपराध क्षमा कर, जैसे हमने भी अपने अपराधियों को क्षमा किया है।

13) और हमें परीक्षा में न डाल, बल्कि बुराई से हमें बचा।

14) यदि तुम दूसरों के अपराध क्षमा करोगे, तो तुम्हरा स्वर्गिक पिता भी तुम्हें क्षमा करेगा।

15) परन्तु यदि तुम दूसरों को क्षमा नहीं करोगे, तो तुम्हारा पिता भी तुम्हारे अपराध क्षमा नहीं करेगा।

📚 मनन-चिंतन

सुसमाचार में कई बार हम येसु को प्रार्थना में पाते हैं और कभी-कभी वे हमें प्रार्थना करना सिखाते हैं। येसु ने हमें 'हे हमारे पिता' की प्रार्थना सिखाई जिसे हम 'प्रभु की प्रार्थना' भी कहते हैं। ख्रीस्तीय परंपरा में इस प्रार्थना को विशेषाधिकार प्राप्त है क्योंकि यह एकमात्र प्रार्थना है जिसे येसु ने स्पष्ट रूप से हमें सिखाया है। ये एक ऐसी प्रार्थना है जिसे हम हमारे विभिन्न कलीसियाई समुदायों में एक रूप में पाते हैं और यह एक प्रार्थना है जिसे हम सभी एक साथ मिलकर कर सकते हैं। यह प्रार्थना से कहीं अधिक, यह प्रार्थना करने का तरीका है।

प्रार्थना का पहला भाग हमारी अपनी आवश्यकताओं के बजाय ईश्वर पर केंद्रित है - ईश्वर का नाम, उनका राज्य, उनकी इच्छा आदि । प्रार्थना अनिवार्य रूप से स्वयं की सेवा के बजाय ईश्वर की सेवा है। केवल उन याचिकाओं के बाद जो ईश्वर पर केंद्रित हैं येसु हमें सिखाते हैं कि हमें अपनी अपने जीवन की अन्य ज़रूरतों के लिए प्रार्थना करनी चाहिए - हमारी जीविका की आवश्यकता के लिए प्रार्थना - दोनों भौतिक और आध्यात्मिक, क्षमा की आवश्यकता के लिए- जब हम पाप व बुराई के विरुद्ध संघर्ष करते हैं उस समय उद्धार के लिए। चाहे खुद के लिए प्रार्थना करते हों या औरों के लिए हमारी सभी प्रार्थनाएँ किसी न किसी तरह से प्रभु की प्रार्थना की उन मूलभूत याचिकाओं के अनुरूप हो।

📚 REFLECTION

The Gospels portray Jesus at prayer many times, and sometimes they give us the content of his prayer. However, only once is Jesus presented as teaching his disciples a prayer for them to pray, and that prayer has become known to us as the Lord’s Prayer. It is a prayer that has had a privileged place within the Christian tradition because it is the only prayer that Jesus explicitly taught us to pray. For all the differences across the various Christian denominations, this prayer is one that we all have in common. It is a prayer we can all pray together. It is more than a prayer; it is also a lesson on how to pray. The first part of the prayer is focuses on God rather than our own needs – God’s name, kingdom, will.

Only after those petitions that focus on God does Jesus teach us to focus on ourselves, our need for sustenance, both material and spiritual, our need for forgiveness, our need for deliverance when the struggle with evil, with what is opposed to God, comes our way. All of our prayers of petition for ourselves and for each other are to conform in some way to those fundamental petitions of the Lord’s Prayer.

प्रेरित सन्त पेत्रुस का धर्मासन

पहला पाठ: पेत्रुस का पहला पत्र 5:1-4

1) आप लोगों में जो अध्यक्ष हैं, उन से मेरा एक अनुरोध है। मैं भी अध्यक्ष हूँ, मसीह के दुःखभोग का साक्षी और भविष्य में प्रकट होने वाली महिमा का सहभागी।

2) आप लोगों को ईश्वर का जो झुण्ड सौंपा गया, उसका चरवाहा बनें, ईश्वर की इच्छा के अनुसार उसकी देखभाल करें -लाचारी से नहीं, बल्कि खुशी से; घिनावने लाभ के लिए नहीं, बल्कि सेवाभाव से;

3) अपने सौंपे हुए लोगों पर अधिकार जता कर नहीं, बल्कि झुण्ड के लिए आदर्श बन कर,

4) और जिस समय प्रधान चरवाहा प्रकट हो जायेगा, आप लोगों को कभी न मुरझाने वाली महिमा की माला पहना दी जायेगी।

सुसमाचार : सन्त मत्ती 16:13-19

13) ईसा ने कैसरिया फि़लिपी प्रदेश पहुँच कर अपने शिष्यों से पूछा, ’’मानव पुत्र कौन है, इस विषय में लोग क्या कहते हैं?’’

14) उन्होंने उत्तर दिया, ’’कुछ लोग कहते हैं- योहन बपतिस्ता; कुछ कहते हैं- एलियस; और कुछ लोग कहते हैं- येरेमियस अथवा नबियों में से कोई’’।

15) ईस पर ईसा ने कहा, ’’और तुम क्सा कहते हो कि मैं कौन हूँ?

16) सिमोन पुत्रुस ने उत्तर दिया, ’’आप मसीह हैं, आप जीवन्त ईश्वर के पुत्र हैं’’।

17) इस पर ईसा ने उस से कहा, ’’सिमोन, योनस के पुत्र, तुम धन्य हो, क्योंकि किसी निरे मनुष्य ने नहीं, बल्कि मेरे स्वर्गिक पिता ने तुम पर यह प्रकट किया है।

18) मैं तुम से कहता हूँ कि तुम पेत्रुस अर्थात् चट्टान हो और इस चट्टान पर मैं अपनी कलीसिया बनाऊँगा और अधोलोक के फाटक इसके सामने टिक नहीं पायेंगे।

19) मैं तुम्हें स्वर्गराज्य की कुंजिया प्रदान करूँगा। तुम पृथ्वी पर जिसका निषेध करोगे, स्वर्ग में भी उसका निषेध रहेगा और पृथ्वी पर जिसकी अनुमति दोगे, स्वर्ग में भी उसकी अनुमति रहेगी।’’

📚 मनन-चिंतन

सुसमाचार में एक जगह है जहाँ येसु बिना किसी हिचक के ये कह सकते हैं - "मैं भूखा था ... मैं प्यासा था ... मैं एक अजनबी था ... मैं नग्न था ... मैं बीमार था ... मैं जेल में था " और वह स्थान है गोलगोथा या कलवारी। उस अवसर पर, उन्होंने जो एकमात्र मानवीय सहायता का अनुभव किया, वो थी उनकी प्रिय माता, और उनका प्रिय शिष्य। यह उनके दुखभोग व मृत्यु का पल था।

आज के सुसमाचार में येसु हमें बतलाते हैं कि वे भूखों, प्यासों, अजनबियों, नग्न, बीमार, अथवा कैदियों के जीवन में आज भी अपना दुखभोग जारी रखते हैं। यसु हमसे कह रहे हैं कि जब कभी हम किसी टूटे हुए, कमजोर, ज़रूरतमंद इंसान के सामने खड़े हैं तो खुद को क्रूस के पायदान पर पाते हैं। अँगरेज़ी में एक गीत है जिसे चालीसा काल में गाया जाता है जिसका हिंदी अनुवाद है - 'जब उन्होंने मेरे येसु को सूली चढ़ाया तब क्या तुम वहां पर थे ?' आज के सुसमाचार के प्रकाश में हमें इस प्रश्न का’ हां ’में जवाब देना होगा। हम वहां थे और हम वहां हैं, जब भी कोई अपनी टूटी-फूटी, कमजोर और घायल ज़िन्दगी लेकर हमारे सामने आता है, तब हम उस व्यक्ति में वशेष रूप से येसु से मिलते हैं, और या तो हम उस व्यक्ति में येसु की सेवा करते हैं या इसमें असफल हो जाते हैं । आज मेरे समाने ज़रूरतमंद, दुखित, पीड़ित येसु दुःख भोग रहा है मैं उनके लिए क्या करूँ?

📚 REFLECTION

There is one place in the Gospels where Jesus could have said of himself without hesitation, ‘I was hungry… I was thirsty… I was a stranger… I was naked… I was sick… I was in prison’. That place was Golgotha or Calvary, as Jesus hung upon the cross. On that occasion, the only human support he experienced was from the women who stood by the cross and, according to the fourth gospel, the beloved disciple. This was the hour of his passion and death.

In this morning’s Gospel reading Jesus suggests that he continues to live out his passion in the lives of all those who are hungry, thirsty, who are strangers, who are naked, sick and imprisoned. Jesus is saying that when we are in the presence of a broken, vulnerable human being we are at the foot of the cross. There is a song that is often sung in Holy Week, ‘Where you there when they crucified my Lord?’ In the light of this morning’s gospel reading we would have to answer ‘yes’ to that question. We were there and we are there, whenever someone comes before us in their brokenness, weakness and frailty. It is there we encounter the Lord in a very special way; it is there we serve him or fail to serve him. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. ‘Flesh’ suggests the human condition in all its vulnerability and proneness to brokenness. It is there above all that the Lord comes to us and calls out to us.

18 And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

First Reading: Genesis 9: 8-15

8 Thus also said God to Noe, and to his sons with him,

9 Behold I will establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you:

10 And with every living soul that is with you, as well in all birds as in cattle and beasts of the earth, that are come forth out of the ark, and in all the beasts of the earth.

11 I will establish my covenant with you, and all flesh shall be no more destroyed with the waters of a flood, neither shall there be from henceforth a flood to waste the earth.

12 And God said: This is the sign of the covenant which I give between me and you, and to every living soul that is with you, for perpetual generations.

13 I will set my bow in the clouds, and it shall be the sign of a covenant between me, and between the earth.

14 And when I shall cover the sky with clouds, my bow shall appear in the clouds:

15 And I will remember my covenant with you, and with every living soul that beareth flesh: and there shall no more be waters of a flood to destroy all flesh.

Second Reading: First Peter 3: 18-22

20 Which had been some time incredulous, when they waited for the patience of God in the days of Noe, when the ark was a building: wherein a few, that is, eight souls, were saved by water.

21 Whereunto baptism being of the like form, now saveth you also: not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the examination of a good conscience towards God by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

22 Who is on the right hand of God, swallowing down death, that we might be made heirs of life everlasting: being gone into heaven, the angels and powers and virtues being made subject to him.

Gospel: Mark 1: 12-15
